Algernon's Story
Life
I'm having a blast doing historical reenacting. While pursuing this new passion, I was given the opportunity to portray Senator Robert Smalls, a civil war hero who captured the CSS Planter in a PBS TV series "Slavery and The Making of America". I have recently been offered a chance to portray a Revolutionary War era soldier for The History Channel. I find it very gratifying to see the enraptured faces of both Black and White people who learn something new about the contributions of African-Americans to the development of our country while I'm doing my "living history" impressions. One cannot know where he is going, until he knows, where he has been. Knowlege is power.
School
Remember "The Meditators" ? My fondest memories are of being a Trenton High School trumpeteer and winning the state-wide "Battle of The Bands".

ated from Trenton State College in 1987 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. At that time, I was only the third African American to graduate with a BS in Biology in the previous 15 years.
While attending Trenton State College, I pledged into the Invincible Iota-Iota chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. eventually becoming the chapter president and known far and wide as "Algie The Great From The Garden State".
Workplace
I am the first African-American Research Scientist at the NJ Dept. of Health. I've been at the NJDHSS since 1981. I am a shop-steward in CWA 1034. My specialty is analytical chemistry. This career is a far cry from the auto body mechanic that my Advisor told me to pursue as a career goal. On second thought, when I took my Durango in for repairs, I paid $98/hr for labor, maybe my Advisor was right. Hmmm...
