Alia's Story

Life I am a 27 year old female that lives in Thornton, Colorado. Not for much longer if I can help it though. I have always wanted to get out of Denver, since I moved back here when I was 15. I have never liked it much. I like smaller places. I like knowing my neighbors and being in quiet communities. I am not cut out for the hustle and bustle of metropolitan areas. Everyone looks at me like a freak because I don't go to night clubs, hiking, biking, and sking. I want to find a place to settle down, so I am in an ideal environment when I start my family. I have had more than my share of fun and I am ready for the next level in life. I have two ideas of where I may eventually go. It is between Wiggins, Mississippi (which I have lived when I was much younger) and Ft. Smith, Arkansas. There are a handful of people in Wiggins I would love to see and I have always liked the town. I don't know anything about Ft. Smith, except my best friend of 14 years lives there, Angela. Her and I have pretty much always lived together and so having her out of state is kind of a shock to my system. I work in the Nephrology industry doing medical billing, customer support of our software that we develope, customer support of GE Healthcare software that we license, Bookeeping, Administrative duties, Travel Coordination, and Accounting. The Dialysis business is very unique and rewarding. I label myself as single, but I am not. It is complicated. If I could simply list myself as unavailable, I would. I am seeing someone but he lives in Wiggins, Mississippi and our communication is a little rocky at the moment because he just moved. We first met each other in the 6th grade. He is wonderful guy that I can't wait to get to know more. He is deaf, which is going to be an adjustment. I have been teaching myself sign language and his world, will open up a new and exciting world of experiences for me. It really is difficult having a long distance relationship with virtually no communication, but we are managing. I currently have two roomates. I rent my friends Brandie and Matt's basement. It is a nice big house, in a nice neighborhood. We have our own personal zoo. We have a dog, five cats, and two rats (yes the rats are pets in a cage and no its not gross). Someone is always watching Scrubbs in one of the living rooms and there are always friends coming and going. Our favorite thing to do is get 4-6 friends together and play with Matt's Nintendo Wii. It seems to be a favorite of everyones. They like bowling, and I like baseball. I am bad at it but I will get better. I generally don't like video games, but this one is interactive in the sense that you have to stand up and actually play the game. I am a sensitive, kind hearted, and generous women that people often mistake as weak and nieve. I have a very distinctive dark side, though, when provoked. For the most part though, I am laid back, friendly and full of smiles School Jefferson High School - Edgewater, Colorado I attended this high school in Edgewater, Colorado for the second half of Sophmore year, Junior year, and Senior Year. I was in the top 3rd of my high school, junior year which qualified me for competition to go to Colorado Columbine Girls State. I competed for and won a spot through the Lakewood American Legion to particiate in this mock state government program that was held for a week at Western State University, in Gunnison, Colorado. I held two offices of Fire Chief and State Treasurer. Two years in a row I was awarded with the "Who's Who Amoung American High School Students Award" for 1996-1997 and 1997-1998 school years. The day of enrollement for senior year, I married Joshua Ferrill. Which was featured in a two page spread in the 1997-1998 Jefferson High School year book. That marriage ended 3 weeks before graduation. I competed for and won a 4 year scholarship. An associates through Red Rocks Community College, finishing up a bachalors through Metro State University. A scholarship which I let go and did not use, due to the divorce. I needed time off of school. During High School I lettered in Drama, participated in the Spanish Club, and was an active member of Tech Theater. I won awards from the Womens Axillary for democracy speeches, and was awarded honor roll several times. During my Junior and Senior year I participated in college classes through Warren Occupational Technical Center which was headed through Red Rocks Community College. I earned college credits to be applied toward my high school transcripts, which put me over in the required credits for the 1998 graduation. I was scheduled to graduate in December of 1997 and walk in the 1998 ceremony. I chose to stay behind and have a part time schedule, because my husband, Joshua was still earning credits. This was by far the best school I have ever attended. They cared about their students and made great strides to make sure that every student succeded. My junior year english teacher, made me join honors english classes, due to my grades in his classes. If only math came as easily. Because of the poor grades that I received at my previous high school, my GPA was not as high as it should have been. I graduated with an accumulitive 3.1 GPA. Stone High School - Wiggins, Mississippi There are no awards to speak of, only fun times. I was not focused on my education at that time in my life, it was all social. My mom never expected much of me other than to pass, so that's all I did. So instead of spewing my awards and memberships, I have memories that will last a life time. I seemed to always have a crush on a boy. Lets see there was Jeffrey Gill, Andrew Rester, Christopher Brown, Derrick Bond, Dominic Cardella and I imagine many, many more. I was boy crazy to say the least. There were a couple teachers that helped form my views and beliefs because they cared enough to teach beyond the realm of their classrooms. There was Mrs. Jones the music teacher, Mrs. Rester the Middle School Science teacher, Mrs. Webb the Biology teacher, and Coach Black who was the football coach, but he is the one who taught me how to drive. They taught beyond state board education, they formed my moral and religious beliefs, which has defined me as an adult. I miss all of the people who loved me and s...Expand for more
tood by me in the end when I had to leave the only supportive place I ever liked. I remember dancing at the pep rallys, freshman year to the hey song. I remember helping decorate for spirit week, sophmore year. I remember playing grab ass with Dena in Biology class and goofing off and having too much fun. I remember looking at boys with Vicki. Talking on the phone to Derrick and Melanie through all hours of the night. Living with Brianna. And passing love notes on the bus after school with Jeffrey. The man who 14 years later, I would fall in love with. College Remington College - Denver Campus I went to school for Medical Insurance Billing & Coding. This was a fast-paced, excellerated course that took 7 months in school and 1 month in the field to complete. I received a 4.0 for every class I took, and was awarded "Student of the Quarter", "National Honors Society", "Perfect Attendence", and "Honor Roll". I have steadily worked with one of my College friends and work currently in her billing department at Gaia Software. We both held the same GPA at the top of our class. I worked full time in the day and attended college full time at night. I often stayed awake until early morning hours studing for exams, coding surgeries, learning human anatomy, and helping classmates to study. I have a special ability to teach things to people and I helped anyone who needed it and wanted it. I had many, many, many high cafinated cappinccino filled nights until 3am-4am in the morning at the local 24 hour restaurant, due to studing. Only to wake up by 6:30 am and go to work. I did not have to work, but I like to work and I like to have money, so I never took any time off for school. On Thursday nights, all the girls at in our class would go to my favorite bar, and we would sing Kareoke, get drunk and the guys would buy us all drinks because we would still be in our school uniforms. The Allied Health program required us to wear scrubs, so the guys at the bar were convinced that we were either nurses or going to medical school. We got many free drinks out of that. I have this friend who is a big time TV lawyer in Denver that will represent me for free because I am one of his nurses. He is so funny but it is true. Good thing I don't break the law. So I would take him up on free drinks instead of free representation. I only wish that I would have went to school for what I originally wanted to do, because I know I would have done very well. This is when I started setting expectaions of myself and I have met every goal that I have set for myself since. This was a very necessary growth experienc for me, since I have underestimated myself my whole life. Now I know, how smart I really am and I have higher expectations of my life and I will succeed, becase now I know I can. Workplace I work I am relitively new to the medical billing industry. I have been with my company Since mid May of 2007. I work in conjunction with three companies under one roof. Samaritan Dialysis DME Drason Consulting Gaia Software I do Billing in the Nephrology industry. Nephrology is the study of the kidneys. I mainly handle the medical billing of patients that are recieving dialysis in nursing homes and who are performing their own treatments at home. I bill for clients all over the country. These functions are performed through Samaritan Dialysis DME and Gaia Software. Our company also developes two of the three required components of the billing software process. We support and train our clients to use the GE Healthcare Centricity Billing Package, which we license in addition to the EMR piece and the Middleware piece ( EMR and Middleware are our developed components ) so that our facilities can run independently if they do their own billing in house. The EMR is the piece of the software that collects the lab data directly off of the dialysis machines when the patient receives treatment. The Middleware, transfers the scheduled treatments, labs, and drugs administered from the dialysis machine to the billing software. This is ultimatly an automated process with very little human interaction. This is headed up by Gaia Software and Drason Consulting. Our programers develop and maintain the functionality of the software. Our project management team tests the functionality of the software for glitches and suggests fixes. The project management team in conjunction with the billing department coordinates and trains the clients on the three faucets of the billing package. This is done through remote desktop connections and a lot of business travel to the various facilites in the United States and Dubai. Through Drason Consulting there is a lot of Medicare legislation written, submitted, and accepted as Medicare law. Our CFO who is a CPA by function wrote a case mix adjustment formula that that has been adopted and is used every day across the country in every Nephrology based office and facility to project patient payments from insurance companies. If any Dialysis unit or office requires help on the tax end of the industry that is the main function of Drason Consulting. I perform many other duties, which include: Travel Coordination, Administrative Assisting, Bookeeping, Accounting, Customer Support, Nephrology Billing, Insurance Carrier Contracting and Pre-Certification. I also, set up the electronic submission process for automated Medicare claims for submission and payments. Military When I was about 13 years old I decided I wanted to be in the Air Force. Through the years, goals slipped through my fingers and that never happened. Although, I am still very facinated with flying military aircraft. I really still would love to serve my country as long as I could fly. I still may one day. But it is not just the Air Force that I would consider. I would also consider the the Marines. When I was 15 years old, I spent three months with my sister and her family on El Toro Marine Base in Orange County, California. He was actively serving the Marines at the time and he gave me a tour of base where he worked. I have since been facinated with military aircraft and operations. Although, the training that I have in the billing industry would greatly be served with the VA, so I have more than one option...if I am ever to go.
