Alice's Story
Oh em gee ! I cannot believe I am doing this , because it doesn't seem possible that I graduated from high school almost 40 years ago, but here we go. Well, in June (June 26, 1971 right after graduation, I got married to my on again/off again Jr. High/ High School sweetheart. Was married almost 5 years, then divorced. Worked in McAlester during that time as Executive Secretary to the State Commissioner of Charities and Corrections/Jim Cook, also worked as lab tech for Dr. Clarence Marshall . My last job in McAlester was as Court Reporter to Judge Wes Brown. In January 1977, I married Dale Lewis and relocated to Muskogee (his home of 31 years). I worked as a legal secretary for a short while and then went to work as secretary to the President of Victor Savings and Loan. Dale and I pastored a small Southern Baptist church together for three years. This was truly one of the greatest times in my life . It was a time of spiritual growth I will forever be grateful for. In 1979, Dale opened a Life and Health Insurance agency. I became licensed as a life and health agent for Oklahoma. After 13 years of marriage and prayer for a child, I gave birth to my (our) first child, at age 36 ; Alllyssa Hope; 2 years later, a 2nd daughter, Kayley Victoria-Faith was born ; 30 months later at age 41 I gave birth to my only son, Joel Micah-David and miracle of all miracles at age 44, I gave birth to our fourth and final baby, a precious little girl, (weighing almost 10 lbs.), Lacey Charity-Bliss. I say that; MY GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN LIFE CALL ME "MOMMA." I continued to work as a General Agent for A.L.L. Insurance Services for several years after the children were born as my husband, a Viet Nam Veteran became totally disabled. I have spent the past 20 years raising a family, attending football and baseball games, dance classes, recitals and competitions, cheerleading events too numerous to count (am now on round 3 of this Rougher Cheerleading Saga) piano recitals, tumbling classes, Muskogee Little Theater Performances, etc. Wonderful memories of all. At present, Allyssa, age 20, after graduating from Connors State with her AAS is attending RN School at Bacone. Kayley, 18, ...Expand for more
graduated from Muskogee High School this year, ranked 3rd in her class of over 300, Suma cum Laude and one of the class Valedictorians. She accepted a scholarship to Oral Roberts University where she is majoring in Biomedical Chemistry/Pre-Med . Joel, 15, is a sophomore at Muskogee High and plays defensive end for the Muskogee Roughers. Lacey , 12, is a 7th grader and an Honors student at the Muskogee 7th/8th grade center. She is my last little Rougher cheerleader. My life is full of excitement and joy that these four little miracles have brought to me. Over these past 34 years in Muskogee, I have been active in community service, and commuity service organizations, which include, but are not limiited to Muskogee Public School's PTO, Pilot International, Volunteer at Muskogee Regional Medical Center, and a member of First Baptist Church, where I have taught Sunday School, missions and choir. My health has been good and because of the wonderful healing blessing of our Lord , I beat cancer in 1985. I have been blessed beyond messure. I have three wonderful dogs, who are also my babies; a Pitbull; a Doberman/Wymeraner mix and a Boxer. Since leaving McAlester in 1977, I have lost both my parents, Herb and Joan Little, longtime residents of McAlester and my only sibbling , my sister Rose Anne, a 1963 graduate of MHS. I enjoy taking care of our home, organizing things, volunteer work in our community, Rougher Football games (heck...Rougher any kind of games really) Bible study, Facebook, great movies and taking trips when we can. I recently became very aware of how much I missed my friends, my classmates from McAlester. Facebook has been the social tool that has brought many of those friendships back to life. I love Muskogee. It is home now. Recently I told someone that there is something special about your hometown; where you grew up,;where your roots are. There is something quite unique about a friendship that spans a period of 40 years and with little to no contact suddenly reconnects and you take up right where you left off. We all have someting quite wonderful in common. We all have a proud legacy and we can all say; .ONCE, WE WERE BUFFALOES! That's my story.
