Alice's Story
Life
Lieutenant Junior Grade Alice Yvette Liburd was born in Chicago, Illinois where she graduated from Hugh Manley High School in 1985. She enlisted into the United States Navy active duty status July 30, 1986 as a Radioman. She was selected for a commission as an Ensign with the designator of 619X under the Limited Duty Officer program and commissioned 01 April 99.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Liburd completed Boot Camp at RTC Orlando in October 1986, and immediately following
Boot Camp she attended Radioman "A" school in San Diego, CA. Her previous duty assignments include the USS L Y Spear (AS-36) homeport in Norfolk, VA. In October 1990 she transferred to NTCC Hampton Roads where she remained until she terminated shore duty to support Operation Dessert Fox and Southern Watch onboard the USS Cape Cod (AD-43) homeport in San Diego, CA. in Alameda, CA. During this tour she received her Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialists designation within 4 months of reporting and was advanced to rank of First Class Petty Officer. She began attending Texas A&M University where she earned her BS degree in December 1998 and recognition as a member of their elite Cross-Country track team. She also earned her selection as the SquadronÂs Sailor of the Year and the selection as a Limited Duty Officer for the 1999 fiscal year. While awaiting commission she reported to the USS Inchon (MCS-12). She reported onboard NAVCOMTELSTA Roosevelt Roads in July 1999 where she has served as Communications and Plans Officer. During her tour she completed her MBA with honors, founded the NavyÂs Mustang Association Caribbean Chapter and was selected as NAVCOMTELSTAÂs Military Woman of the Year 2000.
Lieutenant Junior Grade Liburd has two Children Aaron Curray Mason(18) and Taciana Janae Mason(16). They both reside in Puerto Rico with her.
