College
College....WOW....those were the days!!! I had a great time attending Humboldt State University. I lived in the dorms the first year. I would recommend that every 1st year college student live in the dorms the first year. Getting to classes and staying involved on campus was done with ease.
What is ironic is I wanted to go to college, but I didn't know how I would be able to afford college. I took a year off after graduating from high school. After a year of working I knew for sure I HAD TO GO TO COLLEGE!!! I spoke to a counselor at HSU and everything just fell in to place perfectly!!! Workplace
I began working for Sonoma County Human Services in January of 1995. I spent six years working as an eligibility worker for the Medi-Cal program. I transferred to Child Protective Services (CPS) in September 2001. I am a social worker working with teens as their Independent Living Skills Program (ILSP) Coordinator. This program is for youth that have been dependents or wards of the court from age 16. The program assits youth to participate in educational classes, work shops and special events provided by our local JC. We help guide youth age 16-18 to accumulate all necessary documents, ie, social security cards, birth certificate, driver's license or photo ID. We encourage youth to develop resources for job search, continuing education, resume writing and vocational training and finally assit youth to develop a "personalized emancipation plan" including post high school education, training, job and housing. From age 18-21 we continue to support emancipating youth's plan until they reach age 21.
