Allan's Story

Hi, After graduating KGSS I went on to UBC for a year and a half, eventually lost focus and dropped out (too much chess, too little study)! I got a job at a local sawmill and did grunt work for over 3 years, then quit that to go back to school, BCIT this time - graduated Instrumentation and Systems Technology 1978. That lead to an interesting career in Process Control engineering which I've been in ever since. Big changes came in 1983. It was the year I began studying the Bible and soon became convicted that there is a God and the Book is His message for us. Jesus has become my loving friend and constant companion through the joys and trials of life. I've learned that though the world is filled with injustice and suffering, it will not always be so. He is going to return someday for His friends and He will also settle accounts for all the evil done here. In the meantime His invitation is going out for all to come to Him and enter into a relationship with a loving and personal God. So I was baptized and became a born again Christian. The second big change around the same time was meeting Melu-Jean, a wonderful young woman, at a dance class of all places. We were married in May 1983 and...Expand for more
are now coming up to our 25th anniversary this year. She is more than I ever deserved or could have asked for and the time has just raced by. We have three children, two daughters 20 and 16 and one son 12. They keep me busy and out of trouble mostly - hey I re-live school all over helping them with homework. Man, time is flying by, not to mention almost 38 years since KGSS. Our daughter Rachelle is 21 now and married for over a year. Our younger daughter a few weeks from 18 is getting ready to graduate grade 12 and our son just about 14 can't wait to be old enough to drive (I'm in no hurry.) It would be interesting to hear your stories too. I have run into only a few of the class of 71 over the years. I did visit with Manfred Gatner, Mary Anthony, and Karl Barkowski way back in '77. I worked with Attila Solyomvari for a short time at H.A. Simons (had changed his name to Steve Saunders), and also worked with Tony Poulson while I was working at Eburne Sawmills around '75. Aside from that I recall running into Tanya Marmaras and Maureen Richardson at UBC. That's about it - this city is just too big. If there was interest, maybe, we could set up a Wiki just for KG grads around 1971 ....
