Allan's Story
I quit school in my senior year at Bassick to work fulltime, as I was about to become a father, and it was hard to support a child with part time work. I married that year, and had a baby girl.
At 21, my father (who had lived with us for about 1 1/2 years), passed away, my marriage fell apart, and I was drafted.
Tough year by any standards.
I went into the Army at the end of Vietnam, stayed for a year, and was given and early out with an honorable discharge. Upon discharge I moved to Shelton Ct.
I started school and became a jouneyman machinist. Upon completing school, I worked in the Aerospace industry, building engines for commercial and Air Force Jets around the world. I eventually became involved with building engines for the Abrams tank, working on the spacecraft engines, and the Bradley.
I eventually married again, my daughter moved back with me, and I had 3 more children-2 girls and a boy. My son being the baby.
I moved to Oregon in 1991, ( I got a call that my sister was dying). I moved out to Oregon. This was at the end of another rocky marriage and eventual divorce.
I continued working as a machinist until 2001, at which time I went into drug and alcohol counseling. I am still a counselor in that field, and am told I do an excellent job of helping people get their lives together.
My kids are all grown up, I have 6 grandchildren and one on the way. My son is about to have his first baby, and tells me he will be born by June this year (2009).

00 pop. and was the first established town in Oregon. The predominant industry is wine and wood. There are at least 25 winery's scattered around the county (Yamhill).
I enjoy fishing, Bass, Salmon, Trout. I also like to do woodworking as a hobby.
I have about 1/4 acre land in the back yard, so about 1-3 has been converted into a garden. I am currently working on converting the backyard into a bird sactuary. When I moved in, there were 13 walnut trees. All nice, except no light, and nothing would grow. I found out that walnut will stop most things from growing. The trees came down. 11 Cords of wood later, and I sunlight and a working garden. I have planted peach and pear trees to replace the walnut. Eventually, I wold like to make the backyard as natural as possible, staying with native plants only. This has been a 2 year project so far, and should be on-going for about another 2 years.
Currently, I am involved in a relationship of about 7 years, and we seem to being doing well. She (Debi) works in the same field as I do for the last 19 years. She is an office manager, currently running 3 separate offices.
we have one cat (tiger) and one dog (Tobi). We had 2 dogs, but one passed away from heart problems last year. both were/are rescue dogs, and both were/are Golden Retrievers. Tobi is aobut 10 years old and a joy to live with. Tiger is, well a cat, with an independent streak. He's about 9 years old and also a rescue cat.
Well, thats a snapshot of me. Tell me about your lives and what's been happening to you over the last (dare I say it?) 40ish years.
