Allen's Story

After high school, I went to Occidental College. I suffered leg injuries and could hardly run for 2 years. When the leg healed I trained hard and eventually ran 4:07 mile and 29:10 six mile. After college I competed for Athletes in Action while working. Met my wife in '78. Got engaged on 2nd date and married one month later. We've been married 34 years now and have six children: Philip is senior at Boise State; Sam is married, will graduate as a Green Beret at Ft. Bragg, N.C., this June 2012; Gabby is married & has a bachelor's degree in theater arts from U of Nebraska; she works Pocatello theater groups and is a paralegal; Elizabeth (Biz) is graduating with an education/German degree from Montana State this year and getting married August 2012 (she spent a semester last year in Marburg, Germany); Kelleen is a sophomore at U Nebraska getting a dual education/German degree (and is currently living in Berlin); Eva is a HS senior in Idaho Falls. Got a law degree from U of Nebraska in '82, then moved to Idaho to work as a law clerk for the Idaho Idaho Supreme Court. Currently I am a solo practitioner in Idaho Falls, Idaho. This area is very conservative. I am the only attorney to have obtained a jury verdict exceeding $1 million in a motor vehicle accident case in front of an eastern Idaho jury ($1.8 million, Babakanian v. Cedar Point Construction, November 2009). March 30, 2012, I got a jury verdict for $200,000 for two clients defrauded by some local crooks. I emphasize personal injury plaintiff's work and criminal defense; member of National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers as well as Idaho Trial Lawyer's Assn. Very active in Christian music ministry. I have a music studio at home. I am currently working on my 3rd album. I run my studio using Pro Tools, amazing virtual studio software. As a Roman Catholic, I have written a book on prayer and have submitted it to Idaho's Bishop Mike Driscoll for an Imprimatur and Nihil Obstat. I'm still running. March 2012 ran a 9 mile workout in 1 hr., 22 minutes. We are at 5000 feet here, and it was about 30 degrees outside. Last summer I...Expand for more
ran the same run in 1 hour 14 minutes; hope to get faster this summer. There are some fun runs coming up this spring and summer in the area. My kids and I are putting a team together (we do every year) for the 40 mile relay "To Bone and Back." I love playing the synthesizer. I'm self-taught. I learned by using a teach-yourself-to-play-piano book and by composing music with a kid who played synth. What a joy to play the keyboard. I actually learned to play guitar with Dr. Joe Baldasarre, who actually played studio guitar when he was 16 years old on some surfer tunes in the 60's, including the famous guitar riff in that song about how "they're out there havin' fun, in the warm California sun." I got my first guitar from the ex-wife of the lead singer for the Trogs ("Wild Thing"). I have to say I think crazy Linda was probably the inspiration for Wild Thing. Still, guitar chords never made sense to me like the keyboard does. Playing the keyboard is straight math-- it's easy. Playing the guitar is HARD. Hat's off to you guys who are good at playing guitar. I love my job. I am deeply in love with my wife of 34 years. I love my children, and this October (2012) I will be a grandfather, thanks to son Sam and his wife Megan. I'm a big Nebraska Cornhusker fan. Ever since my days in Nebraska, I haven't missed a game on TV since I graduated in 1982. Nowdays, I go out to Lincoln once a year to watch a game in person. Last year, I saw NU whup Michigan State 24-3. I actually had lunch with Dr. Tom Osborne at the "Training Table" the day before the game, and got my Pic taken with Dr. Tom. My facebook page has a pic of me and Touchdown Tommie Frazier. This year, Jan and I will take our youngest daughter, Eva, and fly out for a home game; we'll go there and meet with daughter Kelleen, and daughter Biz and her fiancee Joe Thiel, and all watch a game together. I sure look forward to seeing classmates at the reunion. I hear there is a golf tournament. I can't play golf. Maybe Brad Armstrong will need a caddy and I can hold clubs or something (Brad has always been an AMAZING golfer).
