Allen's Story

Life After college I taught school at Martin H.S. and Elkhorn City H.S. until 1974, when my dad and I built an FM radio station in E. C.. I ran that until 1989, sold it and went back into teaching at Millard H. S..I became Technology Coordinator/Director for the county school system in 1993, retired from that position in 2001, and now do busy work for my wife of 36 years, Marie (Hopkins) Epling. I finished my Master's degree in Secondary Education/Mathematics in 1993 at Morehead State, have a rank I in Education Supervision, + 3...Expand for more
0. I have a son, 34, who teaches college computer technology at Cumberland, and a daughter, 30, who lives at Cynthiana and has a 15 acre farm with her husband who works at Toyota. I have two beautiful grandchildren, a grandson of 2 1/2 years who can use a computer and thinks I'm great, and a granddaughter of 28 months who speaks two languages already. I still play rock guitar with a local group, sing in the college community choir, do computer consulting, and miss all my friends and times we had at Pikeville College 40 years ago.

I just came in from taking my first astrophoto of the Orion Nebula.It is about 1300 light years away and 24 light years wide. It needs further processing but I decided to go ahead and publish it anyway. Notice the colors in
After processing the image I was able to get a little more definition and color. Very subtle changes but important for identifying structure and composition. I think I may print this one out for framing.
My daughter Tammie just got out of ICU. She had 2/3 of her stomach removed due to a blockage. She is doing great now.

Just had a good session with my telescope observing Jupiter. Its the brightest object in the southern sky at this time. Here is a picture I got of it with a filter and camera set at .001 seconds.
