Divorced.

Iowa is a great place to raise kids, but now that they're grown up and gone, it is maybe a little boring. But the (nerdy type of) intellectual atmosphere in Ames is great. Somehow, both of my kids ended up English majors! They are both cooler than I ever was. Not hard to do.

Carleton is surprised that I'm a scientist. Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at UW Madison, then 4 yrs postdoc in Australia.
Professor at Iowa State for the last 28 yr, with one year in France. This job as a molecular virologist keeps me busy and continues to challenge me constantly - in a good way. Just like cross country w/ Roy Gummerson at OPRFHS...but maybe not that hard.
