Allen's Story

By now, most if not all of you TnT '66er's, are 60. For certain you '65's and '64's are there and past. There are probably some '67's there and the rest soon will be. Because of my birthdate, I was actually a year ahead in public school, probably why I was so imature. I was completely baffled by many of you ladies, and I had no idea how to treat a woman. I'm still baffled by the fair sex and my personal history would seem to indicate I've never learned what a woman really wants from a man, at least this man. Maybe that was true for most young men of that time. Looking back, it seems as though they were the last days of the "Leave it to Beaver" times of the 50's. No doubt in other places like LA or SF, times had already changed or were well on their way. We lived on the edge of a huge social change that in just a few years would sweep the nation, if not the modern world. Soon most of us would discover drugs, learn what Viet Nam meant, and start making our own babies. One thing about this web site that I did not see coming is just how much it brings back those days, especially when you see familiar names in print on that magic screen. I hope you have had more good times than bad in your six decades. I hope you appreciate them all the more knowing that not all of us were given that time. Rod Hill had his life stolen in war. Don Greene behind the wheel of a car. The others o...Expand for more
f which I don't know or have forgotten about also were not given the chance to see six decades of life. In the grand scheme of things, we all can now understand that even six decades is just a blink in time that passes so fast. I'm not quite there yet, I've got a little more than half a year before I reach the full six. I do not take for granted I will see it. I have learned one very certain fact of life. We go from day to day with the belief we are in control of our lives. We have free will and we make choices every day and plan our future and make our decisions about what will happen in 5 or 10 years. Of course we live like that, it's the only course of good sense. The fly in the ointment, the bump in the road, the crowbar in the spokes, is we never ever know what's around the corner. I've learned that lesson over and over and over. With it I've learned that each moment is one to be enjoyed, whether watching waves break at Fort Bragg, or humming birds, or making sweet love with someone special. Smile, the sun will continue to rise as it is for at least another 5 billion years. So there is plenty of time to enjoy yourself. And if you are one of those people having difficulty with that, do it for our classmates and friends that can't. If anyone actually ever reads this, I wish for good times, many smiles, and hey, take a moment to say hi. allen olson -- 59 and counting
