Allyson's Story

My name is Allyson Parker-Lauck now; I married Terry in 1993. We don't have any kids and don't plan to. Terry's company moves us around a lot. We started out in Houston, moved to Ponca City, OK, then to Denver, CO, then to Vallejo, CA, and we now live in Tulsa, OK. I started learning to fly in high school and haven't stopped since. I now fly competition aerobatics and airshows. I am a member of the United States Aerobatic Team and competed at the World Championships in Burgos, Spain in June & July of 2005, and again in Granada, Spain in June & July of 2007. Terry and I loved living in California and were bummed about moving back to Oklahoma in May, 2007, but we've made the best of it. We have built a house and hangar on a private air strip. Our planes are in the hangar in the backyard just 50 feet from the runway. It's pretty sweet even if it is Oklahoma. In 1992, I decided to become a Flight Attendant for Southwest Airlines and have been there ever since. I went to University of Houston, came pretty close to finishing my degree, but it was tough early on with no seniority to have the time to do it, so I got complacent. In the meantime, I became very involved in my Union, hold a seat on our Executive Board, am the Editor/Publisher of our quarterly magazine and monthly newsletters, and am now a Union advocate in arbitration cases. I'm back in school part time/correspondence at the National Labor College in Silver Spring, MD, working on finishing my B.A. in Labor Studies. Who knew? My dad hated Unions. ths apart in 2000 and 2001. Dad died suddenly of a heart attack, and mom died of cancer a few months later. My sister Jessica moved to Tulsa in August 2007 so we could live close together, and we see each other every day we're both in town. She's my best friend and love her more than anything in the world. My sister Meridith... well, that's another story. Other factoids... let's see... I am a liberal and a vegetarian (so is my husband - we haven't eaten meat in 8 years), and yes, we were that way before moving to California!!! :-) We have 3 dogs and 1 bird. The dogs were all adopted from shelters. Our 7-year old is a Lab/Husky mix, and our new brother/sister puppies are Boxer mixes. Our bird is a Cockatiel. I don't believe in caging birds, but unfortunately, he was a pet who had escaped from somebody's home. We tried to find his owner to no avail. My favorite band is a local Denver band called "Opie Gone Bad" - a mix of funk, rock, and blues (they do mostly original music, but they do a killer version of the Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil"). I don't watch a ton of TV, but my favorite shows are Survivor, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, and Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC. Sorry if I have bored you, but I was on a roll, and I figure if you've made it this far on my page, you might want to know a little about who I am today. I'd have to say that I am very happy with how things turned out in my life. Not at all what I would have expected back in high school, but I'll definitely take it. That's about it. Looking forward to the reunion.
