Alphonso's Story
Life
Attended Ballarmine College two semesters after graduating from Central. Entered the Air force in the summer of '61, and stayed active duty 22 years, and along the way, married, divorced, and remarried and I have a total of four children, all of whom are adults now. Over the years I managed to complete a Bachelor-Psychology (1973)and Master degrees: Public Adm-University of Oklahoma (1979) and-Bus Adm-Aviation-Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University(1991). After retiring from the military, worked federal civil service (Department of the Army (Logistics Engineering)), Lexington, KY for nearly three years, then went to work in Florida for Pratt & Whitney, Jet Engine Developer/Manufacturer as a logistics engineer/manager for 14 years. I've Been retired since Jan 2002; and I am enjoying the life change. I currently live in South Florida, about 110 miles south of Orlando (east coast) in St Lucie county. I'm a licensed pilot. Main hobbies/activities are flying small,fixed wing, single-engine airplanes, playing racquetball,being a Meal on Wheels volunteer, and a mentor in the Big Brothers/Sisters program here in my county in Florida. Also, within the past five months, I am now the finance officer for a local AMVETS.
FORMAL EDUCATION
Primary and secondary schools (all in Louisville):
Parkland and Phyllis Wheatley Elementary Schools; Lucy N. 20 plus years, I attended five colleges and universities culminating in an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Chapman (then College) University, Orange, California (1973). Susequently, I earned master degrees from the University of Oklahoma (Public Admn), Norman, Oklahoma(1979),and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Bus Admn in Aviation), Daytona Beach, Florida (2001). In addition, completed requirements for award of an Associates Degree in Aviation, Indian River Community College, Ft Pierce, Florida (1996), which was instrumental to my receiving a private pilot's license. Lastly, underwent a total right hip replacement this past April (2015). Too much racquetball (more than 36 years)!
CAREER
Military Experience: After completing basic training at Lackland AFB, TX;, first assignment was Columbus AFB, MISS, 1961-1963; second assignment was Tachikawa AB, Japan, 1963-65; third assignment was Myrtle Beach, AFB, SC, 1965; fourth assignment was Udorn AB, Thailand, 1965-66; fifth assignment was Dover AFB, DE, 1966-1968; sixth assignment was Incrilik AB, Adana, Turkey, 1968-1970. Discharged from the AF in 1970. Reenlisted into the AF 1972; seventh assignment Norton AFB, CA, 1972-74; eighth assignment was Osan AB, Korea, 1974-75; ninth assignment was George AFB, CA, 1975-76; tenth assignment was Howard AFB, Canal Zone (Republic of Panama), 1976-79; eleventh assignment was George AFB, CA, 1979-80; twelveth assignment was Torrejon AB, Spain, 1980-83; thirteenth (and last) assignment was Scott AFB,ILL, 1983-85; and retired in 1985! Military career spanned more than 24 years, of which 22 years and a few months were active duty time.
