Alvin's Story
What am I doing now? Taking a moment "off" for me, and spending valuable time with my LAST little one.
Condensed version: Raised in a dysfunctional family - an abused alcoholic Border Patrol "La Migra" father, and a nurse mother who chased her four sons around the house constantly with a large orange Hotwheel's track.
The USAF stepped in and sent me from foxhole to foxhole with an M-16 as a ground radar operator... with the fall of the USSR; the USAF was slashed in half to seek budgetary savings.
Many doors were opened for me.
How did I plan my life? I got on highway 8 and kept going. It took me all over the world. I met some interesting folks along the way, and I did not plan my life! It wasn'...Expand for more
t boring, there was a different spin on it every year, and guess what? It worked out just fine! In reality it probably worked out better than fine.
Who else from my hometown of El Centro, California can say that they got an F in Mr. Bowen's Biology class to become involved with the Strategic Defense Initiative, Missile Warning, NASA, and Satellite Operations? It was a wild ride. Who else in the USAF can state they went from muddy foxholes, M-16's, and C-rations to become the first enlisted Air Force member to launch a Titan IV rocket, or to pass a "No GO" call on the Space shuttle that cost the American taxpayers $2.5 million?
