Amanda's Story

Life Well, I guess I'll just sum up my life here for all to read and enjoy mocking me about! (J/K, it's not too bad). Well, I live in Asheville, actually bought a house in Fairview (10 miles outside Asheville, but quieter and prettier) last year. I've been working at the Biltmore Estate (in the Inn in the bar) for the last five years, and plan to move into the Administrative sector next year, so that I don't have to be a waitress my whole life! I'm in school for Business Admin and Accounting, with only 4 semesters left to go! Yes, do the math...I didn't go to college for 7 years (after going to UNCA for one year after leaving Cary), but now I'm much more focused and driven to be successful, so now I'm in school and doing really well, thank you very much! I enjoy being back in school after so much time, but working full time, of course, means I'm only in school part-time, so it's taking me a while. But I figure-I'm not getting any younger, really, so I might as well be working towards a degree instead of not, so here I am. In those 7 missing years, I went on a fabulous RV road trip to Mardi Gras, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, San Diego...it was really a great way to spend some time of my young adult life! I lived in Greensboro for about 9 months after that, and then moved back here to Asheville, b/c the mountains are so peaceful and lovely, and there's alot to do here in town, w/out feeling like a big city with all the hustle and traffic. The seasons here are mild and beautiful, but it's close enough to Charlotte, and shoot-it only takes 5 hours to get to the beach at Charleston, so it's ideal up here, I'd say! What else? I've got two cats and about 800 tadpoles right now, b/c we're growing them t...Expand for more
o sell to put in people's ponds...which is what my "potential future husband" does for a living, Troy. He constructs water gardens and ponds with Koi fish in them and everything. It's kind of landscapes achitecture, in a way. Definately creative, and a lot of hard work, but he really enjoys being outdoors and working for himself is a bonus, of course! So we've been together <1 year, but he really has great husband/father qualities, so so far, he's the best. We will probably be engaged soon, with hopes to be married by 30 (since I'll be done with school by then too). Children? None yet, but I suppose most people do have at least one, so I may as well. Would definately prefer to travel the world and not be too tied down, but realistically my gypsy days are over, and I'm a homeowner, and professional, so you know. Troy is really going to be a great dad, and his whole family lives here in town (for child-care options) so it would be do-able for sure. We'll see. It's crazy to think that we're on the close side of 30 already--it certainly feels like NOT THAT LONG AGO we were at Cary High: hanging out, not going to class, making friends, putting on plays, not knowing any better! Hee hee, I'm sorry if you're still in the area and are now offended. :) But I guess that's about it, I suppose. I haven't done anything too cool like move to London like my sister did, but not all of us are quite that industrious! We did go on safari to Kenya for two weeks two years ago, so I guess that's kinda neat, huh? It really was, don't get me wrong...maybe I should pictures of that trip to the reunion eh? That sounds like a good idea... Anyway, that's definately it now. No graceful way to wrap up, so this is it.
