Amanda's Story
Life
So far life has been very exciting and eventful. I've made it pretty far since graduation. Currently, I am living in Virginia working at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in the Main Operating Room as a Surgical Technologist in the U.S. Navy. I assist with instrumentation and sometimes first assist our surgeons. I get to work in many different surgical services such as Neurology, Gynecology, ENT, Plastic, and General surgery. I gained a lot of experience and just this Oct 2005 I re-enlisted for another 6yrs in the Navy.
College
I've attended serveral colleges. I started at Oklahoma State but soon ran out of funds and moved on to the Navy. There I attended Nuclear Power A School, Nuclear Power School, Prototype, Intelligence specialist ...Expand for more
A school, Hospital Corps School and Surgical Technician C School. In between I've taken a few classes here and there along the way. I'm working toward a commission to become an RN.
Military
Well let's see.. I enlisted in the US Navy as a Nuclear Reactor Operator or ET in July 2000. I completed both Nuclear A school and Power school and sadly during prototype was medically disqualified. However, I got to attend Intelligence Specialist school soon after and work at USNORTHCOM Colorado Springs, CO. Shortly after that I advanced to second class (E-5) then realized my passion for medicine and attended Hospital Corps school and Surgical Technician school. Bringing me to present day where I work in the operating room at the Medical Center in Portsmouth VA.
