Amber's Story

Life Hi to all Williamstown Grads - I hope to see you this summer at the 25th. An update - sorry to have missed the 20th reunion. I had just returned from China with our baby daughter, and I was a bit overwhelmed with being a parent for the first time. Our daughter is now 5 years old and in kindergarten. Her full name is Audrey Xiaoxing Qiufei Smart, and goes by Qiufei (pronounced Cho-Fay). Qiufei is the name she was given in China, and it fit her so well, we kept it. We added to the family in December 2003, when Axel Graham Smart was born in NYC (I like to say he was "homemade"). Having a new baby at 41 was/is a bit tiring, so please excuse any e-mails I don't get back to promptly - I go to bed early! We have lived in NYC since 1992, with an 18 month departure in 1994/1995 when we lived in Vienna, Austria. We like the city for many reasons and plan to...Expand for more
stay, but who knows what the future may bring, so I never say never to possibly moving, given the right opportunity. Qiufei and I were at ground zero on 9/11 - we managed to get out only covered with lots of dust when the second tower fell. NYC was a strange place the year or two after that, but I now work very close to the WTC site, and look forward to watching the rebuilding. Speaking of work, I am in marketing for a British engineering design firm called Buro Happold. The Brits are interesting to work for, but the best part is the flexible hours they allow me. Qiufei attends public school in Tribeca, near my office. And yes, there are good public schools in NYC! But what a different experience she is having/will have compared to our schooling in WV. I will try to get a few pictures up of the family. Look forward to seeing everyone in July. Amber
