Amy's Story

Life I'm Amy (Anderson) Moen, friends and fam call me Amers. High school seems like a lifetime ago. I graduated from Colorado State University in 1993 with a BA Degree in Tech. Journalism, got married(after a 2 yr. engagement) in October 1994 to Brian Moen and had my first daughter in April 1998. Her name is Reily. After many trips to L.A. (my brother and sister in-law both work in Hollywood), a career change and the purchase of a house, baby #2 came along in January 2002. Her name is Megan. I now work part-time, and I'm about to launch my own home based business as a skin care consultant for The Body Shop, but mostly I stay home with the kids. I plan to go back to school as soon as I can for, believe it or not, Mortuary Science. After college I never thought I'd go back to school again and then I found my true calling in life, it's just unfortunate that it took me so long. People have two reactions when I tell them what I want to do when I grow up, first, they laugh and say "Oh, really? Well, um ok, but that's kind of gross and morbid, why do you want to do that?" and second " Oh wow! That's really cool. You don't hear that everyday and people are always dying." Both responses have validity, it is rather morbid, but anyone who knows me also knows that this is the perfect path for me. I LOVE Halloween, more than any other holiday, I watch scary movies all the time, I listen to Halloween music in my car from mid August to Thanksgiving and I get warm fuzzies at the thought of cemeteries, haunted houses and ghosts. Perhaps I am a little morbid but I'm not crazy. I believe cemeteries are one of the most peaceful places on Earth and as my sister pointed out to me, I seem to have more respect for the dead than I do for the living. I also love the adrenaline rush that Halloween brings at the notion of something scary and out of your controll. The other side of me is very conservative and reserved so people have a...Expand for more
hard time trying to figure me out. My husband is a professional photographer and I do tons of scrapbooking which means we have a couple dozen albums around the house with about 300 pictures waiting in the camera. I should buy stock in stores like Michael's and Archivers because I'm always there replenishing my supply of scrapbooking material. Not to mention the fact that Michael's has great Halloween stuff. My two very best friends in the world (Kerry Fitzgibbons-1990 and Sonia Sutton-1989) and I are still as close as ever. When we get together it's like a time warp back to East High and we're all 17 again. But the reality is, our lives are quite different. I consider myself very lucky to have had their support and unconditional friendship for all these years. Kerry and I are huge followers of the band Queensryche, It's like a bond we share. It's difficult to explain their music, you either like it, and feel a deep connection to it, or you don't. Most people I talk to don't recognize the name but I'm sure they'd recognize some of the music. Brian and I are big movie buffs, having both worked in the movie theatre industry (that's where we met). I have been a huge fan of Harrison Ford since I was like 8 years old. Star Wars rocks baby!!!! I don't care if that makes me a nerd, there I said it, I'm a Star Wars junkie! I even worked for the fan club for a while before it moved to Seattle. Thanks to my brother and sister in-law I am now 2 degrees of separation from Harrison Ford. I know just about everyting about the man, just ask. But these days my new infatuation is (along with MANY others) Orlando Bloom. When I saw his performance in the Lord Of The Rings I was the first person to say out loud, " that boy is going to be the next Hollywood Hottie." I still have hope that I can someday introduce him to my sister. That's it for me. I hope all of you have had an eventful post high school experience.
