Andre's Story

I must say that I truly enjoyed my time in North Bay - studies were not too high on my agenda. But I got to meet some really cool people like Doug Stanley who I consider a lost friend & who introduced me to Barb which was the greatest thing of other good things. I may have forgotten to thank him for that so I will now. wonder what happened to Dave? After leaving North Bay moved to TO for a year then moved back to my home town of Timmins and worked as a Director lifeguard city of Timmins in 72: spent my time putting my head back in order. In Dec 73 moved to Montreal, got married in 74 not for the right reasons. Was planning my divorce when my wife surpirsed me that she was pregnant and in 80 had a daughter Pascale-Louise. So put things on hold and got my final divorce in 85. Upon returning to Montreal got my first office job order desk for the sale of railway crossings and plactic caps of all things. The pay was ? in comparisson to what I was earning for guarding getting a sun tan and watching beautiful women. Quit 16 times and got 16 raises. Then a head hunter who found me the first job called me and asked me if I knew anything about 'pumps' I said no except how to spell it and if there was an s at the end there were more than one. That's how I got into my profession. Started working in the order desk dept doing quotes etc. It was funny my starting pay was $10,000. and was there for 1 yr. While there I bought a small motel which was attached to a house for it's debts furniture and all. Needless to say I was in real estate speculatror fliiping houses. I invited my boss & wife for dinner during the Xmas break and when he came he was a bit taken back. I was making more money then he was paying me in a cash motel business. Owning a motel you have a lot of stories to tell. I then went on to work for a fortune 500 pump company called Goulds Pumps - now owned by ITT the largest pump manufacture in the world. These are industrial pumps. Stayed there 2 yr 2 mths. Took over a territory selling to pulp & paper, chemical and petro chemical industries. this territory had not been covered in 5 years and in 9 mth booked 900 thsd, second year 1.9 mil, and within the first 2 mths 1.9 mil. Keep in mind I had never seen a pump before in my life and knew very little about hydraulics engineering. I resigned the next few days after I signed a one time order for $958,000.000 for 4 pumps. You should know why back then I had to increase my age so to have a company car, and second you had to be 30 years ol...Expand for more
d before you could go to the next pay level - remember to them I was 25-26 but in reality I was 23. My career path took me to a smaller company a distributor where I was involved in the design and marketing sewage pumps in the prov of QC. At that time QC had no waste water treatment and being a gov sponsored program it was a 'fluid market' = lot's of money to be made. After 6 years I bought the QC company then wound it down once the program was finished. Took 2 years off and rented a 200 year old farm house on the NY border, then went back into my profession this time bringing me to Ontario Hamilton of all places. Repeated the same type of results if not larger. My job was done and they put in place a guy in North Bay to continue doing the work and I returned to Mtl to take over Maritimes and New England states. Upon returning to Mtl In June 94 I blew out my back at work moving boxes of books: not my job but my boss wanted to save $100. bucks. Was paralyzed for awhile operated on and took me 4 mth to re learn how to walk, today I walk. The older I get though so does my back. I retired for awhile but an old buddy of mine came to see me with a opportunity which I could not resist. We opend a new company called Parts KM Plus Inc and so for the past 7 years we've been working at that. This past year like others we have taken a hit, but well manage out of it. I am a grandfather 3 boys and 1 girl just born on April 30/10. I use to live in the city Mtl but bought a condo 2002 on Yale Islland in St Eustache in lower Laurentians 15 min from St Saveur, and yes it is on a island protected by the ministry environment. Quiet and only a thin bridge access one way, so if you are here it is because your here for a reason or your lost. There are ducks, blue herrings, turtles. It is on a migartory line for geese and other birds. FYI Yale islland was discovered by prof Yale a woman who found over 200 plants that grow on the next island beside our own, but no where else in QC. 15 minutes to airport, downtown. It's pretty cool. Today I am single took a break from the dating circle as I just did not have the time or energy - had some health issues for the past 4 mths which are now on road to recovery. Things are more settled now so well see. Jesus, I found this site because out of the blue I googled Doug Stanley, read what he wrote and said hum maybe a little long but very interesting and look at mine.,.. Hope I was not too boring To everyone take care, wish you all health, happiness and love. Andy
