Andre's Story
Life
I'm still alive, and living in Los Angeles, after High Schol I joined the Navy. After 4 years travelling at the behest of Uncle Sam, I moved to New York City. I lived In NYC for about 5 years, doing various jobs, mostly in sales. I worked as a Doorman/ bouncer at some of the hottest nightclubs during the 80's. Vin Diesel and I, not his real name BTW, worked together at a place called The Tunnel.
In 1987 I was in LA for about 6 months where I met my future, and ex-wife, and mother of my 2 sons. She was on holiday from Australia I like a fool fell in love. She came back to stay with me in NYC, and eventualy we move back to Australia, Sydney to be exact. I lived in Sydney for 5 years, my first son was born there. I worked in computer sales, until the great recession of the early 90's.
So I came back to Florida kicking, and sceaming I might add. I worked for Pepsi Cola, who had a few other Jefferson grads on the payrole. 3 1/2 years was all I could take, so I went back west alone I might add. Still working for Pepsi I tranfered to LA in 97, and I have been here since.
Workplace
I work for Chevron in the second largest fuel refinery in the United States as a control room operator.
Military
From the sweltering hot hell hole, summer 1980 known as Orlando. Where I was in Navy bootcamp. To the way to cold for August Great Lakes Illinois where I went for Navy Machinist Mate training. I was there until late October, 80. I recieved orders to the USS Manley DD 940 which was in th...Expand for more
e ship yards in East Boston. There I remained for nearly 1 year, Boston is a great city to be in if your young BTW. I then went from Boston to Newport, RI where the Manley would be stationed, but for a year and a half we were hardly there.
Places I journied to onboard the Manley, Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Puerto Rico about 5 times, The US & British Virgin Is., Bermuda,Charleston, Mayport Fl, Key West, Ft. Lauderdale.
Now it gets interesting The Azores, Rota Spain, The Rock of Gilbralter, Palma Mjorca Spain, Tulon France/ Geata & Naples Italy, Athens Greece, Siganella Sicely, Alexandria Egypt, Hifa Isreal, Beirut,Lebennon, The Suez Canal, Jibouti Africa, Bharain, The Persian Gulf, Indian Ocean, Diego Garcia, Karachi Pakastan. There are more places , but time, and tide block my memories.
The Manley was de-comssioned, because the hull was cracked when we were riding the outskirsts of a hurricane off of Cape Haderis, S. Carolina.
After the Manley I recieved orders to the King DDG 41 " The King OF the Freaks". It was in the yard also In Bath, Maine cold and no one height, and weight porportionate. After Maine we went down to our home port of Norfolk, VA. Where shoddy work resulted in the ship not moving for 7 months. I went to Cuba for six weeks, and around the Carribean. Then we were slated for another Mediteranean Cruise, but I only had 18 days left. As soon as I got to eurpoe I would have fly back home. So ends my tales of the sea, there are a lot of stories, but to racy for TV.
