Andrea's Story

Hey there, If you're here you should probably know that I haven't subscribed to this site yet, and while I'll get an email saying someone visited .... I won't have any idea who it was. If you want to find me (and I HOPE YOU DO), use your keyboard to find andy1rn at the webserver Yahoo, you know the usual ending. That's .com last and Yahoo in the middle, with andy1rn in the front. Hopefully this will get past the censor! I started high school at Oak Grove High School in San Jose (after Caroline Davis Junior High). There were wonderful people there. Dorothy from art class, Guy, Jerry, Bill, Mike, Juan, the twins, the skydiver, etc. That first year I spent time in the quad with people who were graduating in 1972, '73, and '74 more than my own year, a very mixed group in many ways. There was another group, mostly "girls", who were friendly and kind and sweet I remember each of you clearly and would REALLY like to hear from you. Cathy, Lela, Barbara, Leslie, and more. Please. See the first paragraph to get hold of me. I moved to Davis California 2 weeks before my freshman year ended. Parents, please don't move your children to a new place with only 2 weeks left of the school year. I did make a few friends over the summer, but they were not the friends my parents would have chosen. My sophomore year was spent in Beaverton, Oregon. Even though I had what was probably my worst year ever there (and hey, what's high school without a miserable year or two?), there were bright spots like Barbara Billingsly who lived across the street and was a true friend. Julie "Sunshine" made me feel cared about when I needed it most. Harry "Butch" Harrison, another kind and gentle person, was the other one who made a huge difference in my life at that time. I still have regrets about the last time I saw him. How do we grow and learn without having regrets? I finished my last two years of High School at Homestead High in Cupertino, ending in 1975. We lived in Los Altos and those were strange times; I both loved and hated it. Remember the orchard and the field by the 7-11 (if I'm remembering right)? I was about 5 foot 1, had long strawberry-blondish hair, rode my Suzuki 250 to school (a...Expand for more
t least my senior year), and thought I blended into the background most of the time. I also thought I'd been born a decade too late and idealized the "hippies" and drug culture. Today I still hold many in high esteem who could be called "hippies", but now it has more to do with commitment and life style, and nothing to do with drugs. Since then, I've been involved in various jobs mainly in the computer industry and a registered nurse (now disabled due to disc problems -- aka a bad back). I'm in the Chico area (Butte County). My son is 23 now and currently in Seattle. I have 3 dogs, 1 crested gecko, and too many leopard geckos; a small garden with raised beds along with the love of my life bring me joy daily. I hope you have joy in your life now too! There are a lot of people I'd love to get in touch with and hear from, including folks that I knew by sight more than by name. My brothers were/are Scott and Bob Alexander (graduating 2 and 3 years behind me). Bob married Heidi Baynes (Baines?) after he graduated and they are still happily married today. Their three sons are worth bragging about. If you knew me then, please write me! Leslie N, Wanda C, Denny, Bill S., Jo, Andrea R., Cecille (from next door), so many others! Don't use this site, email me. Look at the first paragraph to find my email address! Tell me what you did after high school if you want, and where your life's led since then. I'd really like to hear about it! If you want to know the places I've been, literally and figuratively, I'll share too. Feel free to write anytime! ~Andrea aka Andy Alexander Updated June 2017: I've recently moved to a small town just south of Chattanooga Tennessee with the one I love. Our two children are grown and on their own and doing well. I'm still gardening and learning about herbal medicine & edible landscaping - must be that hippie influence. I recently took up kayaking on local creeks and have enjoyed watching the wildlife. I saw 35 turtles the first time out! I'm pretty happy today. In high school, I hid out in the library a lot and now I regret not being more outgoing. If you remember me, drop a line to andy1rn at yahoo dot com -- I'd love to hear from you.
