Andrea's Story
Technically, I graduated from Plano Senior High, but I actually attended Menlo-Atherton High School in California my Senior year, and transferred my grades back to PSH because I was dancing with the San Francisco Ballet at that time. On PSH's graduation night, I was dancing at War Memorial Auditorium in San Francisco and missed it! I danced with SFB from 1979 until 1982, when I was hired by Mikhail Baryshnikov to dance with American Ballet Theatre, so I moved to New York. This was a period of a lot of flux in the Arts community due to cut backs by the National Endowment of the Arts, and we got layed off, hired back, went on strike, hired back, etc.
The last time I got layed off coincided with my father being diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, so I moved back to Dallas and danced with the Dance Consortium, a now-defunct contemporary dance company. My body started giving out on me at this time, so I took some classes Collin Country Community College and got into basic office management/bookkeeping. time in Napa accounting for wine we were importing from the company's parent in France and keeping an eye on the bottling and labeling companies. It was a great time - lots of drinking and lots of free wine! I was also teaching ballet on the side. My son, James was born in 1998, and we moved back to Dallas for a year, then Bruce was hired to take an Oil and Gas company public in Louisiana, so we moved to Lafayette. In spite of my reluctance to move here, I now love it and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We now have our own Human Resource Consulting business called Accelerated Performance Resources, and I am a Nationally Certified Resume Writer. I am the Ballet Director for a large dance school called Dance Graphics as well. My husband and I just finished collaborating on our first book together called SOUL SURVIVOR, which is being published by Grand Central Publishing in New York, and is scheduled for release on June 1, 2009, so look for it on shelves next summer!
