Andrew Finkel:  

Life ANDREW J. FINKEL Commander, Supply Corps, U.S. Navy, retired CDR Andrew J. Finkel, Supply Corps, United States Navy, retired was born in Manhattan, New York on December 3, 1947. He graduated from Conard High School in West Hartford, CT in 1965. After attending college and working in the civilian community in Florida and Connecticut, he enlisted in the Navy in May, 1975 and was assigned to the Naval Hospitals at Great Lakes IL, Portsmouth VA, and the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda MD. After receiving certification in HLA typing and testing at Walter Reed Army Hospital, Washington, DC he returned to the Naval Hospital Portsmouth VA where he was in charge of the Blood Bank and was the only certified HLA technician in a major (1400 bed) Naval hospital facility. He completed his degree requirements while on Active Duty receiving an Associates Degree from George Washington University and his Bachelor's Degree from the University of the State of New York. CDR Finkel received his commission from the Naval Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in November 1982. From there he attended Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, Georgia. From May 1983 to March 1986, he was assigned as Disbursing and Sales Officer for the USS Donald B. Beary (FF-1085), home-ported in Norfolk, VA, completing two extended Mediterranean cruises and numerous Caribbean and North Atlantic cruises. He was then assigned to the Naval Audit Service, Western Region, Alameda, CA. In October 1986, CDR Finkel left Active Service and began his Naval Reserve career.
