Andrew's Story
Today is the 13th of December. Yesterday was something of a milestone for me. You see, I have always been an asthmatic-though once I reached 3, I didn't seem to have any trouble. that is, until 2004.
I had a close call, had to be taken via ambulance to the hospital and was in a drug induced coma for what, 5 days? Either way, the litany of meds just negated each other.
Now, 2 yrs ago, 12/12, after nearly 2 weeks of being up all night and barely napping in the day( I was afraid to sleep-breathing was getting bad)-my wife convinced me to seek an emergency "breathing treatment". I drove in order to keep me focused on anything but the difficulty breathing.
The first treatment went well. The second(to last 1 hr) went bad, quickly. I recall the last moment before the world went black.
I had told my wife "I am NOT...Expand for more
staying overnight. A treatment and we're home." Not so fast! 6 days later, I awake...seeing the calendar, I thought, "Rats, not again".
I learned that shortly after going out, the ER folks had a hell of a time bringing me out of respiritory arrest- twice! At one point, my wife was asked if she wanted a priest to do last rites!
Ok, so...two near fatal attacks in two yrs. Not good. Since 2006, with just 1 med. I have had no significant issues. Indeed, yesterday was a milestone. Unfortunately, I had to work last night. I chuckled at the thought of a break at 9PM- the time I went out in 2006. At least I was not in a hospital!
Until this year, the approach of the month of December(my birth month) actually made nervous...during the last 4 yrs.
MERRY CHRISTMAS everybody!
May we all see better days....
