Andrew's Story
After graduation from Cardinal Gibbons High School (CGH) I went to the University of Florida and studied architecture for three years. I then changed my major and schools and transfered to Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama with my brother Ian.
Spring Hill College is a Catholic University run by Jesuits, the most educated of the Catholic clergy. They're required to have at least two Ph.D.'s, one in theology and another in anything else. So, more Catholic education, (St. Anthony¿s grade school, Cardinal Gibbons high school and Spring Hill College)
I graduated Spring Hill with a degree in Finance and then went to work in Ft. Lauderdale as a Stockbroker. Being a broker wasn¿t really for me and I ended up with my own company that I sold out of in the early 90's. After that I partnered with a guy I knew and started up a Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing consulting engineering firm. We grew from two people working out of the house to approx. 60 people in 5.5 years.
I then sold my share of the business and went back to school, University of Florida to get a second bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. I graduated in December of 2003 and went to work for a small local engineering company in Pompano Beach.
In late 2005 I opened a new engineering company with a new business partner. We are Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing consulting engineers. In shor...Expand for more
t, when you see an architect¿s roll of drawings for a building they include: Architectural, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering and our stuff, the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing. That means we design (not install, we¿re not contractors) the Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning systems as well as the complete Plumbing system including gas and Fire Sprinkler and all the Electrical design including lighting and Fire Alarms systems.
My experience of having gone back to school was one of the most rewarding endeavors I've ever pursued. With the advent of cell phones, instant messaging and e-mail, it¿s never been easier to keep in touch with your friends. I¿m proud to say I made a lot of great friends from having gone back to school and I¿m still in contact with many of them.
In high school and college I was very active in the running sports. In the late 80's I participated in a few triathlons. They were then called Tin Man Triathlons back then and are now the Olympic distance triathlons. I'm still active in running and other outdoor sports, although not competitively.
My older sister, Paola, who also attended CGH is now an MD and lives in Boston with her husband and three kids.
My brother, Ian, is also married with three kids and lives in Annapolis, Md.
My parents still live in the house I was raised in.
