Andy's Story

After high school, I kicked around for a while and did nothing really productive. Worked for a short while at an electronics supply company, then an auto body shop for a shorter period of time. After that didn't pan out, I stopped procrastinating and finally joined the Air Force in December '77. From the rank of Airman Basic to Chief Master Sergeant, my Air Force career spanned nearly 21 years till October '98 and took me all over the world with permanent assignments (PCS) stateside, Germany and Korea and temporary duty (TDY) in Italy, Greece, Turkey, England, Spain, Belgium, Holland, and all over the U.S. . I started working primarily on fighter aircraft weapons systems (F-4, F-5, F-15, F-16, A-10) but as my career progressed I moved into management of all aircraft maintenance activities. Married in 1982 to my German wife Lydia, we have one daughter Nicole, who is currently pursuing her degree at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR) class of 2011. We stayed in Las Vegas after I retired from the Air Force and after 3 years with a government contractor at Indian Springs Auxiliary Airfield, I started my present job with the Las Vegas Valley Water District where I will probably remain until retirement. ntral while in high school, I've been tinkering with cars and have completed a couple of retrofit conversions of late model fuel injected engines into classic iron. I did swaps on my 68 Camaro (which I still have from 1978) and a 65 Chevy pickup. Never seem to finish anything however. I'm currently working on the "project that will never end", restoration of a 1961 Corvette into which I'm swapping a 2002 LS1 engine and 1996 front and rear independent suspension. I've owned Harleys since 1991 and try to ride as often as time allows. It has seemed to get more difficult to put quality rides together as time rolls on however and for the last several years, long rides have been few and far between. I'll be playing softball in the city leagues and an occasional tournament until my knees can no longer take the punishment, but strangely I never picked up the golf habit... probably for the better... Due largely to my daughter's influence I now post on Facebook and Twitter so if you care to drop me a line, I can be found there. I had placed my email address link here but Classmates won't allow it.... (edit)This has worked in the past, let's see if they delete it... averbil at yahoo dot com...... or a Google search on my name should turn up something....
