Angela's Story

Life I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia with my 17 year old daughter who is looking at colleges in New England (yeah!). I work in government (it pays the bills), and have a mortgage consulting business. (Anyone need a home mortgage or want to refinance?) My newest passion is working with teens and youth to become self sufficient, goal oriented and successful through a family non-profit organization designed to introduce and encourage them to start their own business enterprises. My teenage daughter and I use the power of the spoken word to motivate and encourage others to find their passion, take action and responsibility for their lives while speaking to, teaching and reaching youth at their churches, schools, and organizations. Anyway, I've been in the south for 20 years and miss home terribly, especially the ocean! I visited Brockton a few weeks ago and dined at this incredible restaurant called Tamboo. If you haven't been, you're missing out. I am pleased to see my hometown on the rebound. I'd love to catch up with all my friends and classmates and leave you all with something to think about. A hater is someone that is jealous and envious and spends all their time trying to make you look small so they can look tall. When you make your mark, you will always attract some haters... That's why you have to be careful whom you share your blessings and your dreams with because some folk can't handle seeing you blessed. It's dangerous to be like somebody else... If God wanted you to be like somebody else He would have given you what he gave them. You don't know what people have gone through to get what they have...(The problem I have with haters is that they see my glory, but they don't know my story...) If the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, you can rest assured that the water bill is higher there too. We've all got some haters among us: Some people don't like it that you can come to church, get your praise on, shout in the aisle, dance in the pew, enter His gates with praise and bless His Holy Name. Haters don't want to see you happy, haters don't want to see you succeed, haters don't want you to get the victory. Most of our haters are people that are supposed to be on our ...Expand for more
side. How do you handle the haters? You can handle your haters by: Knowing who you are and whose you are; having a purpose; by remembering what you have is by divine prerogative and not human manipulation. Purpose does not mean having a job. You can have a job and still be unfilled. A purpose is having a clear sense of what God has called you to be. Your purpose is not defined by what others think about you. You will always try get stuff because the more stuff you have will improve what others think about you, but what others think will last as long as the stuff lasts. Favor can get you the following things: the car you dream about; the job you applied for as a joke; the house you did not deserve. When God gives you favor, you can tell your haters, "Don't look at me...Look at who is in charge of me...Instead of hating on me, you need to understand that what I have, I did not earn it... I cannot afford it... I don't have the education for it...Remember, it isn't about you, but it's all about God. To all my friends and classmates, God bless, stay positive and keep up the good fight. Until I see ya again! Angie College I thought I was all grown up when I decided to go away to college. It's really funny because I chose to attend Brown University in Providence, RI, just 20 minutes from home. It was really the best of both worlds, away but not very far. It was great to come home for all the holidays, I didn't want to be too far from my mami. After spending time studying in Italy, I graduated with a BA in Semiotics in 1988. I was a member of the Black Chorus, Rites and Reasons Backdoor Theater, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (skee-wee!), and co-producer of a Black news television show on PBS called "Shades". If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing! I absolutely loved Brown! The next 8 years of my life took me to New York, Chicago, Detroit, and then Atlanta, where I received a fellowship to Clark-Atlanta University. In 1988 I received an MBA in finance, and went on to work in the banking and finance arena. It's been 19 years since I've been a student, and I am seriously considering returning to school to get either a PHD or Law degree. Hmm, I just can't decide. Stay tuned.
