Angela's Story
Life 1/2006
Today, I am a wife, a mom, and a radiation therapist at UCSF. I am at the Parnassus site in San Francisco, CA. I also get to cover for a specialty called Gamma Knife. UCSF does have a website for its Radiation Oncology Department and also for Gamma Knife. I am very thankful for my job and my friends there.
I have just had a procedure for my heart. It's called a catheter ablation. My heart condition was called paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia, a fancy name for my heart beats fast when it wants. Thankfully my doctor was the founder of this procedure; his name is Dr. Melvin Scheinman at UCSF Electrophysiology Department (also has a website). So, if any of you have fast heart rates get it checked. I didn't really know I had it until I ended up in ER Nov 30 2005 (before then I attributed my fast heart beat to being in love alot-just kidding) and the cardiologist (electrophysiologist) who visited me in ER is the founder of this procedure (at the time I didn't know that, I just thought he was some nice older doctor, I found out after I looked up his profile and got more information on my condition).
It's nice to have a few days off. My procedure was Thursday 1/19/2006 and I get to go back to work Friday 1/27/2006. I'm not suppose t...Expand for more
o lift anything above 10 lbs for the next week.
We have two children. The oldest is 11 and the youngest is 9. I am very thankful both my husband and our children are well and loving. We just live one day at a time going through life's normal ups and downs. Some days our lives are smooth no problems, I look up and give thanks to God there was no drama; and other days I look up and ask God please help me to get through this trial.
I look forward to the 2007 reunion. Thanks for reading my bio.

Workplace
1993-1999 I worked as a radiation therapist in San Jose. A facility called Santa Clara Hospital Health Systems. I commuted from San Francisco to San Jose. I am thankful now to only commute to San Francisco from South San Francisco where I now work at UCSF since 1999. The field has changed since I first entered into it. Going from manual to computerized. Working for a research facility enables me to witness first hand the new upcoming treatments and being part of and implementing many protocols of treatment that has started with UCSF. That part can be very exciting. The most wonderful part of this job is meeting people; and trying to help cure them or help them out of their pain.
