Angela's Story

Well.....here is my story so far: After graduating from Kent State I found a job at a law firm in Cleveland, Arter & Hadden. I moved to Akron, OH, where I married my husband Michael. We had met each other at Kent State as music majors. He was a piano performance major and I was a music education with voice as my major. We married in 1997. My husband ended up transferring to Akron University, whereby, he switched his major from Piano Performance to Organ Performance. We both started working in churches. Him as an organist and me as a Choir Director. At this time, I was also still working in Cleveland, building a business career while still involved with my music career. Soon after we married, in early 1998, we were selected from a national search to take a full-time Director of Music position at Zion Lutheran Church in Wooster OH. We moved there in January of that year. At the church, it was a pretty high-profile place, as it is a Nationally renowned church and its choirs have recorded CDs. There were 9 choirs as well as a concert series. My husband and I shared the position initally, while he was finishing his degree at Akron. I directed 5 of the 9 choirs and assisted in managing the concert series, as well as our performance schedule, calendar, and logistics of the entire program. In April 1998 we became pregnant with our one and only daughter, Bailey Elizabeth. She was born December 29, 1998 and has been our truest blessing. She is every bit as spunky as her mama and has both her parents stubborness wrapped into one. She makes us laugh, she makes us cry, and she is our JOY! Also, while in Wooster, I started working for a third-party logistics company, whereby, I functioned as a Graphics Designer, Marketing Liason, as well as IT Trainer, Phone Systems Administrator, and so many other hats, I hate to list them here! It was a very small company, but I learned and grew immensly. Early in 2002, the company started not doing so well with the down slide of the economy and with everything that was happening to Rubbermaid at that time, so I lost my job. We discovered living in Wooster, that we really didn't like the commun...Expand for more
ity, so I took the opportunity, to start looking for positions in Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton. At last, in July of that year, I had a successful interview at Battelle and am currently working there, in the Human Resources department as a Staffing Coordinator. In conjunction with that, 3 years ago, I headed back to school to conduct some repeat coursework in my music education classes to complete my teacher licensure for K-12 music. Currently I am student teaching. My husband took this endeavor about 5 years ago when we originally moved to Columbus, and he is currently in his 4th year of teaching at Whitehall Yearling High School, Choral 9-12. He is a gifted musician and I am so proud to say that in his third year last spring, that he took his choirs to State OMEA competion where they received their first "I" rating in over 47 years of the schools' history. He also picked up hosting District XV Large Group Adjuticated Events, last spring, of which I ran and managed the logistics of that weekend's events. We are looking forward again to hosting again this year! Our daughter is in 3rd grade and keeps us extremely busy! She is a "tom-boy" and appreciates the outdoors. In the summer time, she enjoys staying at our small cottage at Indian Lake in Logan County. She also enjoys keeping our dogs, Toby and Bear entertained.....they are her brothers. So thusly, she fights and plays with both of them! We look forward to everyday as she grows and matures. Last year when Bailey was in 2nd grade she had her first vocal solo at her school. I was amazed, she won't sing for me. I have also had a private voice studio since 1997, so she has heard voice lesson after voice lesson, but she will never sing for me or for Dad. In fact, she tries to tell us that she doesn't like to sing. But her solo.....was something else. Dad was running the camera, Mom was crying. Other folks in the audience, didn't know she was our daughter, so they were issuing comments like, "Oh how cute she is" and "Wow, what a voice". I am so proud of her! Well for now.....that's the rest of the story. Hopefully, in the near term, there will be more to add. Enjoy!
