Angela's Story
Hello out there,
It has been a long time since we graduated from Littleton High - over 30 years to be exact, and I have lived 26 of those years abroad in Germany.
After graduating from Emmanuel College in Boston in 1982, I left the Boston area for good, got married, spent a year on Hawaii, and then moved to Germany, where my husband and I started our family. We have 3 sons, aged 25, 23, and 18.
Needless to say, I spent a lot of time raising my children and helping them get a good start into life.
Professionally I kept myself busy at first by teaching English as a Foreign Language to adult learners here in Germany. In the middle of the 90's I got an office job, and developed my translation skills. I also started teaching Business English at a local college and worked as a freelance translator for 10 years. people here, and make Germany my second home.
Unfortunately I was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago, and I had to stop working. Now, it seems that I have won that battle and I will be going back to work again some time this year.
Living outside the States has given me an interesting perspective on many issues and believe me sometimes it was not always easy to be an American abroad. (Just one example: no one here understood the big deal made in the Statesabout the Clinton/Lewinsky - affair - not to mention the Bush years, particularly his first election to term). Except for those things though, I have always felt very welcome here and have made many good friends.
Of course I still miss the States, my family and friends there. I always enjoy coming back for visits and am planning one this year.
