Angeline's Story

As one who graduated from FHS in 1960, sharing over the course of that many years is a task in itself, but I will try to provide you all with my abbreviated story as follows: As many of you may know, I married my High School sweetheart, Dick Sanchez (class of 1959). After Dick graduated from ASC (NAU), he taught one year in Flagstaff. We made the decision, which served us very well, to move to California where we lived for 33 years. During that time, Dick continued post graduate studies earning a Masters in Education, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. During those years, I was a stay at home mom and student, raising our 4 children, until our children were teenagers. The time had come for me to start my own career. Financially, this proved to serve us well, as it wasn't long before we had all our children in college at the same time - brutal!! My career eventually culminated in being Director of Marketing for a San Diego Medical Center - a job that I absolutely loved. It was a perfect fit for my background in art, writing and public relations. Dick's career led him into higher education in college administration, culminating in College Presidencies in two colleges, one in Southern California, and presently in North Texas. As one might expect from reading this, we moved numerous times living in beautiful cities in California, and even moving to Michigan where Dick earned his doctorate. Moving was something I had no desire to do again. However, one more move was in our future, to another state, no less - Texas. When we moved to Texas, we brought my dad with us as my mother had passed away very unexpectedly in Flagstaff at about the time we were relocating. I took on the job, at that time, to take care of my dad, so I did not go ...Expand for more
back to work. Dad lived with us for 20 months, a very blest time, until he passed away in 1999. Our decision to relocate to Texas has proved to have been an excellent decision. We were definitely in the fast lane during our time in California, both of us working very hard in our careers for a number of years. It was time to slow down and enjoy a slower paced life and although Dick's job is demanding here, it is still a slower paced environment. Our 4 grown children are married and we have 12 grandchildren. I am very involved as a bible study leader in a large women's non-denominational bible study. This requires a good deal of my time, however, I have a passion for it and wouldn't trade it for anything. Additionally, I have a passion for cooking and have spent a good deal of time during our marriage dedicated to honing my culinary skills. I take classes at a culinary school in Sonoma every time I'm in Northern California visiting our daughter and family, which I try to do as often as I can get away. I'm considered a gourmet cook and like to entertain on a pretty large scale. I also enjoy interior decorating and occasionally over the years I've taken many art classes, i.e., oil painting, pottery and sculpture - not enough time for all my interests! We visit Flagstaff 2-3 times a year and enjoy the family home that we own with my brother and wife. We definitely plan on spending much more time there once Dick retires in the next few years. We enjoy traveling, the opera and live theatre. Living near Dallas has much to offer in entertainment, restaurants, etc. Dick and I look forward to the next reunion in 2010! It's been awhile since we've seen so many of you and we look forward to re-connecting with our respective classmates.
