Angelo's Story

After graduation, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. Should I enlist in the armed forces, go to school?? Staying home, chilling with friends and working FT at Safeway was the way to go (wether it was right or wrong). Well, after getting hosed on hours from Safeway, I quit and worked for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance company by Crown Center and the Hyatt Regency. I worked there for a couple of years. During my time of employment with them, I had the opportunity to work in Newark, NJ for 2 months in 1981. I also got to visit New York City. During this time, I had met my future wife Linda G., from Topeka, KS. I relocated to Topeka, got hired on with Southwestern Bell Telephone and got married in November 1981. Three (3) children blessed our house during the next 3 years, Michael, Bryan and Joanna. In February 1994, I was transferred back to Kansas City (Mission area). We relocated here permanently in July 1994. My children all graduated from Shawnee Mission North HS. Unfortunately, my marriage lasted only 20 years. Linda and I parted our ways. I got laid off from Bell with 20 years service. I worked as an Office Administrator and a delivery driver for plumbing supplies. I already was living with my future 2nd wife Wanda B., from Apalachicola, FL. After several years of living together (the both of us were not in any hurry to remarry), we took the plunge and got married on the white sandy beaches of St. George Island, FL in March 2005. In 2007, Wanda and I relocated to her hometown in Florida. Having fun in the sun was alright, but jobs were very hard to find in that small coastal town. I started up a general re...Expand for more
pair service (repair, lawn care, pressure washing, window cleaning). In November 2008, business came to a screeching halt. Money stopped coming in but the bills didn't. My son Bryan was living in Reno, NV. He had security officer positions available. He asked if I wanted to work for him. What?? Me ... work for my son???. Well, I needed money and like I said, jobs are very hard to find in Florida. So, after talking it over with my wife, I pulled up my stakes and relocated to Nevada. My wife followed 6 months later. During our time in Nevada, we saw Lake Tahoe, Virginia City, San Francisco, Pebble Beach, Monterry, the Sonoma and Napa valley's, a geyser in Calistoga, CA, Bodega Bay (where Alfred Hitchcock filmed "The Birds") and other areas of northern Cal. We have relocated for the final time back to Kansas City (Mission area). My son Bryan and his family have relocated back to Kansas City also, which made his mother happy. I work for the same security company. My post is here in Leawood, KS, but hopefully I will get posted at the new soccer stadium at the Legends at Village West. No more moving for us, unless it's here in town. My wife and I are are content on living here in Kansas City. This is home to us. Also, our grandchildren are all here now. My step children each have one (boy and girl) and my son Bryan has a daughter. His wife is expecting a boy this September 2011 and my oldest son and his wife are expecting a baby in December. Christmas time will be fun this year. To all Harmon alumni, keep in contact with me. I can be reached on Facebook. Type in my name and you will find me. Take care .... Angelo Alonzo
