Angie's Story
Life
The past 3 or 4 years have been rather revealing about who I am and where I am in my life. I had several life-altering blows in a short span, handled them well in retrospect, yet they damaged more than I realized at the time. My grandchildren are my saving grace in all aspects, with their innocent approach to just about anything that comes along. Two people officially call me mom, and 4 beautiful children officially call me grandma, however, my extended family is quite large. Many of my kids' friends call me mom, and their kids naturally adopted me as Grandma. I'm blessed to still have my mom around; it makes me chuckle to remember someone asking me at North Ridge Junior High (in about the year 1967) if the white-haired lady in the audience at some program was my grandma. While most of my family lives in Danville, my daughter, her 3 kids and I live in Springfield, IL. No big dreams of retirement or world travel here - I want to move back to Danville in 3 years when my time with the State of Illinois is up and drive a Schwan's truck. Then I can start telling my son how to raise his kids! I have pictures of all these beautiful people on my MySpace page i...Expand for more

School
Oh wow, I hated school. From that first whiff of crayon and polished floors I wanted nothing more than to go back home and continue the lifestyle to which I'd become accustomed: eat, sleep, watch tv, go shopping with mom, play. There were only 2 outstanding periods throughout school years that mattered then and still do; I had 2 excellent teachers who made me realize I was worthwhile in my own right. Mr. Gary Rogers was my 6th grade teacher at Liberty School; both Mr. Rogers and the school are gone, but neither will ever be forgotten. What a wonderful, funny man he was. My art teacher was Margot Harvey at North Ridge. I use some of the ideas she gave me to this day, not only in art, but in life. High school was pathetic. Social classes, ugh. I didn't think anybody liked me, so I didn't like anybody else, except for a small circle of people I consider the best. No other time in our lives better fits the expression, "if I'd known then what I know now".
Workplace
Three years til retirement. That's all I have on my mind. Three years. They can't go by fast enough.
