Anita's Story

After high school I went to Indiana State Teachers College (later Indiana State College, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania) from which I received a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1962. I married John Baker (SVHS 1959) in May of 1962, and got my first teaching position at Buffalo Twp. Elem. School in Freeport. In 1964 we moved to Detroit, Michigan and I started teaching in St. Clair Shores. John went to work at National Bank of Detroit until he was drafted into the Army January, 1966. I moved to Texas with him, and took a job teaching Special Education at Copperas Cove, Texas. In 1968 we returned to Detroit area, and I went back to St. Clair Shores teaching 3rd grade. We had four daughters, Julie (196...Expand for more

I had found a happy home there and would remain a kindergarten teacher for 39 years. Aong the way I went back to obtain my Master of Arts in Early Childhood Education. I retired in 2005 after 43 years. I loved every minute of it, but we are now enjoying retirement. We have traveled to a NASCAr race in Virginia, Williamsburg, Washington, D.C. and most recently Hawaii. This fall I will realize my dream of traveling to New England during the autumn colors. John passed away February 9, 2010 at the age of 68. I am still in Michigan with frequent trips to PAZ to spend time with my dad who turned 100 in Noveber.
