Anita's Story

Life Remember me? Probably not. I was the poorest kid in the school (probably the whole town!) The mousey girl that got pregnant in her senior year. Time does march on (right now it's marching across my face) and with it we are forced to face the harsh realities of life. I have often heard it stated that we actually change careers 3 times in our lives. I am true to form, having worked as a Registered Nurse in MN, in Food & Beverage Management, and now as a Realtor in Tampa, FL. Each career has been rewarding, full of accomplishments, and the former of the 2 reached a burnout point. I feel if I cannot perform the duties I am charged with, or reach a point that I am unable to make a difference, then it's time to re-evaluate my goals. I have been married for 17 years to my best friend, Randy. He works for Northwest Airlines and is currently based in Chicago. Marriage to an airline employee is similar to a military marriage in that you move around often. In the past 17 years we have lived in Mpls, Honolulu, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Tampa. We own our home in Tampa and plan to retire here (he has 7 years to early retirement). We have a long distance marriage, and are creative to keep it strong. We were never able to have children, but raised my two sons to be very wonderful, moral, self-sufficient adults. I am also raising my 2 y/o grandaughter, Haley, while my oldest goes back to school. She is the light of my life! My youngest son earned a full academic scholarship to FSU, and is a newlywed. My children are 32 and 27. (yes, it has been that long since we were seniors) I have traveled extensively, having visited or lived in 40 of the continental states, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Brazil, London, Bankok, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia. I am an accomplished (and paid) artist and sculptor, and accomplis...Expand for more
hed (and paid) seamstress, and accomplished (and paid) palm reader, and a voracious reader. I have a driving need for knowledge, and when I don't know how to do something, or wish to learn more about a subject, I read extensively. I am also an insightful tarot reader and a novice astrologer. My best friend once asked me if there was anything I couldn't do, I had to think for a long time before I had an answer...sing. I feel my greatest accomplishments are my sons. It is so rewarding as a parent to look at these two young men and think, "I really like that guy". Now, it wasn't easy to get to this point, it took a lot of work! Secondly, my formal and informal education. I was the first of many generations in my family to graduate from high school, and I am very proud to have continued my education. I have an ASRN, a BA in Psychology (what can I say it was the 70's), a year of pre-med, and specialized training from some of the finest vintners in the country, Hospitally Excellence degree, and many metaphysical degrees and training. Moving around as much as we have makes it difficult to continue education in a formal setting. I have many licences and certifications form many states. Thirdly, having overcome a childhood of extreme poverty (it never ceases to amaze me that young people are so oblivious to these things) and the social stigma attached to it. Last, but certainly not least, my 17 year marriage. It requires constant vigilance and work, but it its time well spent! We respect each other, and give room for growth. I feel really strange, like I'm singing (if I could sing) accolades for myself, but I am a strong, intelligent, and very independent woman. I wouldn't trade my past or wish it away, because it reminds me every day how far I have come and how truly blessed I am with family and friends.
