Ann Schaffer:

CLASS OF 1963
Newport news, VA

Ann's Story

I lived at home until Jan 1965; when I married the guy I was dating my senior year. We lived in Hampton until 1977 and then we moved to Yorktown .......Jim Lamb was our next door neighbor. Nick worked in the shipyard and things were uncertain with the strikes and he applied for and was hired in Feb 1979, at Texasgulf in Aurora,NC. We have been here since; we have one daughter and one grandson. They live about 20 miles away, Robert comes down and stays with us in the summer and on long week-ends. He is so mature for an 11year old, sometimes he really makes me laugh. Nick and I both are retired; mine is disabilty, I have nerve damage in my left leg due to diabetes.....that is what happens to you when you don't take care of yourself. Some things you have to lear the hard way. We also have 3 "babies" two male and 1 female" Mattie we adoped from Lynn's sister-in-law, Marty was my sister's, until she got sick and could not care for him.....we have had him for 3 years, they are poddles and the last Gaylord, we adopted him from the animal shelter and he is "a Hines 57", but we love them all. We had a St Bernard, her name was Baby and SHE WAS!!!! One of our neighbors told her neighbor that we kept her in the house!!!...Expand for more
!!!!!! Well, where else would she live???????????? She was part of the family! Nick wants to move back to Va, but I really don't want to leave our Lynn and Robert and of course Eric. We live in a small town and of course everyone knows everyone and their business, he really does not like that part......he liked the farm we had, 15 acres and NO NEIGHBORS!! Donna Harris Fontonot called me and told me about the reuion and that is when I joined Class Mates. I saw Joyce Thomas at the nursing home my sister was in 2005. I had not seen her since school. She recongized me and I knew I knew her, but could not place her until she told me her name. She really looked good. Her Mom was in the nursing home also, she is a sweet lady. I saw Carol Creech's name on the list of lost, I have not heard of her since the late 60's. I saw Jeannie Collier at the doctors office back in 1970 and asked about Carol, but I don't know anything about her either. On the questions and answers, one of the questions was what type of person you were in school and I really did not see a discribtion of myself. Well I will quit rambleing on.........boy don't I wish I had paid more attention in typing class now. Love to hear feom any of you. Ann
