Ann's Story
Ann was a Swafford in school and lived in Marietta, Georgia. Ann's schools include Osborne High School. She later attended Kennesaw State University (Liberal Arts, Creative Writing) . She is a former author for Simon & Schuster and now works as an author for Mercer University Press.
Ann came to live in Marietta in 1966 when she was ten and her mother and father divorced.. She became a writer when she listened to her grandmother and great aunts tell stories about the Depression in Appalachia. The ghost stories were the best, and she began to write her own. Soon, she was a closet writer, reader, and dern intelligent student. None of her friends ever dreamed she would become a writer and oh the stories she still has to tell.
She has published four novels and a novella that are all set in Appalachia durning t...Expand for more
he Depression. Her next two projects are nonfiction because it is time to begin stretching her wings. Both are contracted with Mercer University Press. The first is a memoir about her granny, due to be released in March of 2018. The second is a nonfiction narrative about Lucille Selig Frank, Leo Frank's wife. This will be the first in a series about Georgia women who helped shape the South.
Ann often writes about women's struggles. One day she would like to write a book set in her high school years about a teenager surviving in a home with an undiagnosed bi-polar for a mother.
One of Ann's favorite quotes is:"We fear because we are uncertain that we are enough. We fear because we are certain the we are not enough. We fear because the creative act calls us to be more than we can be alone" --The Artisan Soul.
