Ann's Story
Ann E. Donlan joined the staff of the San Francisco Superior Court, effective January 14, 2008, as the Court's first-ever Communications Director.
With more than 20 years of journalism and public relations experience, Ann is an experienced communications professional who focuses on media outreach to help the Court achieve its commitment to transparency and accountability, and to inform the public about creative and effective efforts to serve the residents of San Francisco County.
A 1986 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Ann has covered crime and politics for more than 15 years in Vermont and Boston, Mass. As a news reporter for more than six years in Boston, she covered the Boston Police Department, high-profile homicides and breaking news in the Greater Boston area for the Boston Herald, Boston's scrappy tabloid newspaper. As a former top adviser to the Attorney General in Massachusetts, Ann served as the Communications Director, Press Secretary and Deputy Press Secretary for more than five years. During her appointment to the AG's Office, Ann advised the Attorney General on media strategy related to high-stakes cases and public policy issues, including the criminal investigation of the Boston Archdiocese, Massachusetts' landmark gay marriage case, the sale of the Boston Red Sox and the Microsoft anti-trust case.
Ann also has worked as the Communications Director for the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the world's largest association for privacy professionals.
She is married to an award-winning photojournalist and writer. They have three children.
