Ann's Story
It would probably surprise the few classmates I knew in high school to learn that I make my living in the performing arts. Terribly shy, pudgy and bespeckled, I married right after graduation. A divorced mother by age 20, I was an admissions counselor at UH (thanks to my father who was a dean at that institution) and worked week-ends as hostess at several clubs in Market Square where I began managing my first band. With a background in dance (my great-aunt was Billye McDowell Studios in North Houston), I choreographed for several clubs (chorus line) and began teaching dance to children.
However, by age 24, I was tired of the "scene" and my daughter and I moved to San Marcos. There I
completed 119 hours in elementary education with an
minor in theater/dance. I also opened my first dance studio and formed a dance troupe which entertained at venues throughout Texas and surrounding states. I worked with many Texas bands and appeared in several not-so-famous movies and musicals. It was here that I began writing and producing children's theater which is still my greatest love.
In my early 30's I moved to Corpus Christi and managed the entertainment for several country clubs and owned a fashion production/dance company. I also worked for the CBS affiliate there in personnel, the newsroom, and sales. I married once again...when that ende...Expand for more
d, I headed back toward the "hills" and ended up near Boerne where I opened Dance-Maker's School of Entertainment Arts.
I was forced to close Dance-Maker's after 19 years due to illness (am ok and healthy now!) about 4 years ago. I trained literally thousands of youngsters and today some of them have grand-children of their own!!!! A number of them went on to successful careers in the industry and make me very proud. I wrote, choreographed and produced over 200 theatrical productions and have enjoyed each and every minute of my life teaching theater and dance.
Today I am the artistic director for The Little Theater in the Woods and take only 30 children to train. I operate a private shelter for abandoned animals and work a couple of days a week at a really cool furniture store where I do sales and write ad copy. I am a private coach (performance trainer) and my most recent grad was crowned America's Teen. I am slowly regaining my income and energy lost due to illness and spend my time writing and thanking God for a second chance at life.
Unfortunately, I don't really remember much about Waltrip and those long-ago years. Perhaps that is why I joined this network...I am interested in who and where you are in Life...I am not exactly computer literate, but I look forward to hearing from you..........Ann Taulbee Young
