Ann's Story
Ann's schools include Spring Woods High School.
Gosh, it's been a long time. I remember Spring Woods, the pep rallies, the football games, but I'm afraid I don't remember a lot of people. I was in all the accelerated classes, so many of the people I remember are from those classes. I was horribly shy in those days, and i still carry that trait. My husband, Rodger Sawyer, says i went around the halls looking at the floor all the time. In college (William Penn) I reinvented myself and had many close friends. It was a lot easier in a much smaller school, plus living in a dorm helped. I look upon my college days with fond memories. But it was Becky Ross that introduced me to Rodger. Becky and I worked together at Town and Country Six Theaters (it's no longer there!) senior year, and a year after graduation, Becky wanted to have a party, so all the work bunch had a party at a house near Spring Woods I found out later it was Rodger's house. Everyone got drunk, and i met this guy there that I liked, and the liquor made me less shy, and we ended up going steady for several months. It was Rodger. Time apart was a downer; I was in Iowa and Rodger was in Houston, so it didn't last. We both married others, and it wasn't until 36 years later that Becky indirectly brought Rodger and I back together. I was going through a divorce and a health crisis and wanted to reach Becky, but she wasn't in the Classmates pages.I saw Rodger's picture near hers, and I knew they were friends, so I send Rodger one of those generic notes. He answered back, found Becky for me, and the rest is history.

myself, I graduated from William Penn with a Sociology major,, went to Texas A&M for my masters, but had to drop out and work due to getting married. Looking back, that was a big mistake, but we can't change the past. I was working on my MBA and being diagnosed with severe heart failure when Rodger & I got back together, and I knew if I wanted a transplant that it had to be in Houston. So I moved back to Houston, married Rodger, got my heart transplant, and am now retired. At the last reunion, Robby Robinson asked me if I had used my education, and I suppose he meant it in a male kind of way, but I was struck with the fact that I raised two very bright kids; I taught them to read, how to live life, helped them with homework, etc. Mothers are kids' first teachers, so yes, Robby, I have used my education. I have used it in every way possible. To those friends of mine, Becky Ross, Theresa Herzog, Marcy Sulek, Missy Davis, Vicky Stinnett, et al, I will never forget you. You made me who I am today.
I forgot to mention that I coowned a very successful business, working as the accountant and doing HR, actually being a partner, but I left all that behind when I divorced, and then later moved back to Texas. Rodger was a big part of my recovery, and every bit a gentleman. I have two children, one living in San Francisco, and one in Portland OR so I miss them a lot. Thanks for putting up with me in high school!
