Anne's Story

Life Strange how you graduate from high school with big expectations and goals, and how somewhere along the way you just let life take you where it leads rather than continuing to pursue your dream. Interestingly enough, as I got older I realized that my dreams were what others had created for me and not really what I wanted in the first place. Looking back, would I change how my life has played out? Absolutely not! I firmly believe that "things" happen for a reason, and while not everything in my life has played out the way I would have chosen, I'm completely happy now with how it's turning out. Would I have ever guessed 25 years ago that I'd be married, have kids, and be living on the East Coast in a suburb of Washington, DC? Never! Obviously God had different plans for me than I did. Cause here I am, married to my best friend for just over half my life, living in Virginia, raising three kids and loving life. Actually my eldest son is 22 and living in Honolulu, so he's pretty much raised and gone. He just returned from serving 15 months in Iraq as an Army medic, and let me tell you, that's no day in the park for a parent. That aged me significantly. My middle son is 16 and learning to drive. Okay, tack another couple years on for that too! Any my youngest, Alexis, is 13 and going through what they characteristically call the "difficult years". Like I needed the added stress and few more gray hairs. My husband has been a police officer for over 20 yea...Expand for more
rs now (how much stress can one woman handle?), and I hate to say it, but he plans to retire in 5 years (gosh, are we that old that we're talking about retirement?). I work as a marketing coordinator for a friend of mine who is a very successful realtor here in Northern Virginia. I truly enjoy it! I meet a wide variety of people daily, and while most of my job involves sitting in front of the computer creating ads, uploading pictures and coming up with 100 different ways to say "buy this beautiful house", I do get to step outside the office on a regular basis and tour some pretty awesome homes (and see how the other half lives). The only thing I hate about my job is the commute. It's 26 miles each way, and while I always thought nothing could compare to Interstate 5, I have to say that Route 7 here gives it a run for it's money. (Imagine I-5 in a snow storm!) Not fun, but listening to books on CD sure makes it more pleasant. And while my commute home usually takes an hour or so, the great part is that we live on 10 acres in the country backing to a mountain and surrounded by trees and pastures, and it's delightfully peaceful and serene. We still get out to So. California now and again to visit my family. All, but one of my siblings, still lives there, as does my mom. One thing's for certain though, I could never move back. I guess I've gotten spoiled by country living. Something about all the asphalt and smog and people...it just doesn't appeal to me anymore.
