Annette's Story

Life 10 1/2 years of marriage, 3 daughters, 4 states (OH, CO, FL, and now CA), 1 Bachelor of Science Degree, and a couple of Class Reunions later, I am an extraordinarily busy stay-at-home mom...who is actually hard to catch at home! After 4 fantastic years in JAX, FL, we recently moved to Redondo Beach, CA this past June where my husband's (Alan) company is headquartered. We moved here so he could travel more, and that, he is! Shortly after attending our 20th Class Reunion a few years ago, I actually became pregnant again. Our 3rd daughter was born 2 years ago and while many of you may have high schoolers w/driver's licenses, I am still able to say happily that I am chasing a toddler in diapers! I would love to hear from old classmates, but hesitate to give too much detail here about my personal life, at the risk of boring anyone who might be more highly entertained by a more interesting life beyond marriage and motherhood. Unless you care to share tales and woes of each, then we should absolutely talk! Have I gotten what I'd hoped for out of life? By and large, yes, indeed. For those who knew me well, you will quickly remember that marriage and motherhood were my #1 priority. My great love of music remains intact, as well as possessing a certain savvy writing flair, which has penned a few articles for some local newspapers on occasion, but far from anything award-winning. I've had the opportunity to teach a variety of classes in the area of my religious background, as well as participate in public speaking opportunities, which I thoroughly enjoy. My time is spent focusing on my husband and children, purely out of sheer joy. Alan (my wonderful husband, truly he is!) insists we could have an e...Expand for more
asy 2nd income if all the hours I 've put in volunteering at the girls' school and at church would pay! But, I love it and would feel very sad if that were taken out of our lives at this point. Perhaps some of you have entered, or are about to enter the "sandwich generation" which finds you overseeing the care of an aging parent or relative while still raising children of your own at home. When that moment actually arrives, despite knowing it will absolutely come, it seems to catch you off-guard although you swear you were mindful and watchful all along. We're entering this stage ourselves now and I am sometimes emotionally overwhelmed wondering what skills I should use or develop as situations arrive that no one ever seems to warn us about ahead of time. Is this happening to any of you? Our graduating class voted me as "most dependable" all those years ago. That is an honor you could still attach to me, according to those I hold dearest. I know Alan and the girls are grateful for this since most moms are the "glue" in any family it seems. I remember wanting to explore the world outside of Madison County so desperately as a teenager. Who knew I would marry someone who would move us all over the country? While home last summer in 2004 for my Grandpa's funeral we actually considered moving back. Found a house, called a few people, went through most of the motions, and in the end, Alan's boss told him if he was seriously considering a move anywhere, it should be CA and no place else. So, here we are, still investing in satellite TV to faithfully catch those Buckeyes! I would really love to hear from any of you...all of you, so please, drop a line! Thanks in advance to all who respond! God Bless you!
