Annette's Story
After two years at the University of Colorado, in Boulder where I majored in Speech and Drama (and enjoyed the experience of being a pom-pom girl), I joined the ÃÂÿFriendly SkiesÃÂÿ of United Air Lines in the summer of 1964.
Living in New York City the first six months of my stewardess career, I enjoyed great Broadway musicals and the excitement of the ÃÂÿBig AppleÃÂÿ. After transferring to Denver, the skies were not so friendly. On Nov. 11th 1965, our Boeing 727 jet crashed short of the Salt Lake City runway catching on fire and killing 41 of the 82 passengers on board. Trapped on the aft stairwell, surrounded by metal and fire, I had given up hope of my survival. After praying for a miracle, I found a narrow opening to slide my hand through. Miraculously, a fireman saw it and rescued me. That experience strengthened my faith in God and deepened my appreciation of all the beauty around me.
After my recovery, I took a job with UAL at the airport (due to my new fear of flying). In 1968, I had a brief and disappointing marriage. I took a job with Western Airlines in the Denver city ticket office and after my divorce transferred to their L.A. city ticket office. Living in Marina del Rey, a neighbor introduced me to my husband of ten wonderful years. We h...Expand for more
ad a great life and I have a loving step-daughter and three grandchildren who are very dear to me.
Throughout the years I continued working for the airlines, selling real estate and doing some runway modeling and a few commercials. I've had 2 long engagements since my marriage, but remain single and happy with my dog,Sandi, and my parrot, Emmitt and I am grateful for all the traveling that I've done for fun. Update now in 2011... Sandi ( my dog) died Oct 15th 2009 amd Emmitt (parrot) had a stroke 2 wks later, so I was crushed! It was such a shock/surprise and they were my family. One year later, Nov 1st 2010, I was given a 5yr old parrot, Jezebell (African Grey-like Emmitt) and we are enjoying bonding together. She needed a home and I needed a pet.
After my retirement from Delta Air Lines in 2002, I fulfilled a promise to my deceased father to finish/publish a book he had been writing about his life as a marathon dancer. The book can be ordered online, Marathon Dancer, The Billy Steele story (that's Dad's stage name). While working on the book, I became inspired to turn it into a musical. Four of the songs are posted on my marathon dancer page. (It is a fun project. Only God knows if I will complete it.) 2010- now, I am doing extra/background jobs on TV shows which is fun.
