Annie's Story

Life Hello fellow classmates.... This is Annie Moffett Saleem. I currently live in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. I live here with my husband Wali. I currently have one child, a son. I am very hopeful for twins, we will just have to wait and see. Well I like living in the big city, it is a real change from Mobile. In 2001, I lived in Miami, Florida. That was a beautiful place. I love to travel whenever possible. I love performing charity and helping in the community. Someday I hope to start my own local charity to help the elderly; those with physical and mental challenges. There are some people that may wonder about my twin sister. Alice is a nurse, she has two sons. We still talk to one another like we live down the street from each other. We try to visit home as much as possible, but sometimes life can me you so busy. I love to go to the beach whenever I can. I think that a nice class reunion on the beach would be very nice.... Overall, I have been blessed within my life over the years and I really cherish my life lessons and my life experiences. I pray that all of our classmates are doing well and are prosperous in their lives. School Well, classmates..... I did enjoy my time at our high school. I think that I stayed pretty busy while I was there. At that time,I think that we all had this wonderful energy inside of us, we felt like we could accomplish just about anything that came our way. That was a jublious feeling! Now when I am home, I do run across a few of our classmates. I know that everyone has tried to do their best in this life. Most of the time, when I see someone from school they have children and /or married with children. I think that this is great. It makes me very emotional to see how we have evolved into adults.... over the years. I always loved our pep rallies and homecoming activites in school. I basically loved anything that gave us the opportunity to wear our purple and white!!! I was a big basketball fan in those days... I remember once when we played Leflore H.S. The game was played at their place. My sister (Alice) and I went to the game. We were seen dancing and messing around on the Leflore side that night. The next day, at school I remember people calling us traitors. We told them that we had friends who went to Leflore and that we were invited to sit on...Expand for more
there side for the game. We had a good time that night! Now there were many teachers that I did come to know during my time at our school. Ms. Shirley Johnson was my most favorite. I could relate to her the best. There were others who also challenged me as well. I felt that I was a all around person when I was in school. I really did not have a certain group of people that I totally hung out with. I think about this now...that was diversity. Now my best friend was and still is my twin sister Alice. Back then I feel that I was very fortunate to have family members whom I went to school with. I had a number of cousins that I attended school with. I played tennis in school, and because I did I feel that may be that's the reason I am still a big tennis fan to this day! Go James Blake!! Go Venus& Serena!!! Overall, I loved being a student at Mattie T. Blount HS. Even though the location of the school has changed the essence of being apart of the leopard family has not. I only hope that they preserve our old location and turn it into something constructive after the "wolves" leave. College I did experience college. That was pretty cool. I went to Bishop State , Alabama A&M University, and then I took up a career trade at Remington College. I like being in the college atmosphere. Most people I know that went to college, they either started their own businesses or they work in a completely different field of interest than what they have a degree in. I did come across some instructor/ professors that made quiet an impression on me. I am truly thankful for that. Workplace I had some fairly interesting jobs. I really like the jobs that I have had where I have helped others in their lives. I guess I love social work. Working in the healthcare field has been pretty cool. Sometimes, I think about going back to school to become a pharmacist. This would be my ultimate dream job in the healthcare field. I've been a house wife with hobbies for a while. As of current, I do work in the field of helping those with developmental disabilities. I'm looking into getting back into the social work arena or perhaps turning my attention to a new field of interest for myself, the biotechnology field. I have always been fascinated about working in a lab, conducting research. I will just have to see what's in my future!!!
