Anthony's Story
Anthony (Tony) Fellow, a resident of Arcadia, California, is professor of Communications and director of the College of Communications Florence and Berlin Programs at California State University, Fullerton. He has served as chair of the University's Department of Communications and Department of Cinema and Television Arts. He is a graduate of the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism, the University of Southern California, where he received his master's and doctorate degrees in communications research. He taught at USC, where he was a Walter H. Annenberg Fellow, for five years.
Before entertaining education, Fellow was a news reporter and editor for The San Gabriel Valley Tribune for 10 years, covering the presidencies of Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. He continues to write political columns for newspapers, and has his own television show, World Press, at Cal State Fullerton.
He was named a U.S. Fulbright Scholar, receiving Italy's highest Fulbright Award, the Vercelli Chair of Communications History at the University of Vercelli, Italy. He established the state's largest and most successful University study abroad program in Florence, Italy, where he teaches about four months out of the year. In Europe and the United States, Fellow teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the History & Philosophy of American Mass Communications, Media Law, Politics and Media, Principles of Communications Research, American Media History, International Communications, and Mass Media Effects, and his hobby, The Italian Cinema.

books, including American Media History, Writing in a Multimedia World, Copy Editor's Handbook for Newspapers and his newest book, Tweeting to Freedom, an Encyclopedia of Citizen Protests and Uprisings Around the World, which will be released in January. He is working on a book on the history of Italian cinema and a screenplay about the life of America's first female journalist Nellie Bly.
He has been very active in local politics, including President, Pasadena City College Board of Trustees; President, Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District; former vice chair, Metropolitan Water District of Southern. He is a former vice mayor of the City of El Monte, and may seek a Congressional seat in 2018.
He was invited to speak at Rosemead High School's baccalaureate services two years ago, which he considers one of high points of his life. "Rosemead High is/was a wonderful school which gave me the foundation for all my success," he said. He says he can never forget teachers Marlene Smith, Janet Gable, David Benscoter, Lois Hidelmann, Russ McFann, and all the physical education coaches.
On Thursday evenings he assists Father Roque Fernandez teaching Bible study to adults at St. Francis of Rome Catholic Church in Azusa.
He is married to Clara Potes-Fellow, a fundraising consultant for non-profits, and former press secretary during Bill Clinton's campaign for president. She has worked in crisis communication for Southern California Edison, the Metropolitan Transportation Agency, and the California State University System Chancellor's Office.
