Anthony L.'s Story

Life Anthony "Tony" Herbert, Sr., a Prospect Heights native born and raised, has a broad range of political experience. He currently works for a Park Avenue Advertising firm as their Vice-President of Government Affairs, and most recently left the Wall St. investment banking firm Bridgepoint Capital were he was the Senior Vice-president of Government Relations/Corporate Marketing and Small Business Development. Tony also has worked for former NY State Senate Minority Counsel Leader/Martin Connor as his Director of Community Relations. Tony's responsibilities in the Minority Leader¿s office were to identify and build working relationships with community leaders in minority neighborhoods. He has also served as a special assistant to New York City Councilwoman Priscilla Wooten. In this role, Tony acquired his skills as a community advocate fighting for the rights of the residents in the council district to gain access to the city services their tax dollars paid for. Tony, in addition has also worked under the leadership of Congressman Edolphus Towns as a volunteer and then hired as a Special Assistant by the Congressman to represent his interest in the Fort Greene, Clinton Hill sections of the 10th Congressional District. To that end, Tony has established solid relationships with community and political leaders while his tenure with the government. A proven leader, he has an extensive amount of experience with the inner workings of the local, state and federal branches of government. He represents a new generation of leaders who bring fresh ideas and a pragmatic approach to today¿s challenges. Tony has been a resident of Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, for 43 years. me from a single parent home, where his mother was the breadwinner of the family, Tony learned about commitment to family early on. He was taught the value of hard work and being of service to others. He was a member of the Crown Heights and Clinton Hill Lions Club youth divisions at age 15. Giving back has always been a very important part of who Tony is and what he believes in. He is an advocate of health issues that affect the lives of all New Yorkers. His special interest in women health issues stems from the loss of his mother to ovarian cancer just a few short years ago, and in having a number of his closest friends who were diagnosed with fibroidal problems. As a grassroots activist he has taken the lead on this issue and a number of other issues such as employment, economic development, fair housing and education. Tony has also been instrumental in organizing business seminars, health and job fairs to help tackle many of these issues. In December of 1996, Tony along with several business associates helped to form the Professionals Network Organization. The key function of this 10,000 member organization, is to give young upwardly mobile minorities the opportunity to have access to resources and information that will afford each and every one of them growth so as to bring them closer to realizing the American dream. Tony is an executive member of the MW Enoch gRAND Masonic lodge AF&AM Joppa Lodge#21, the Men's Caucus for Congressman Towns, Founder of the Central Brooklyn Youth Initiative, Founding member of The Federation of Black Cowboys, Organizer of the St. Johns Place Tri-Block Civic Association, a member of the Urban League Young Professionals Auxiliary, George Westinghouse HS Alumni, Board member of ReB.U.I.L.D, Board member of The Ft. Greene Volunteers, and a dedicated father of three fabulous children.
