Anthony's Story

Life Hi, After Graduating from Conant in 1980, I attended NIU. I met my wife Valerie my sophomore year, we were lab partners, but didn't start dating until the summer before my senior year. After 4 years at NIU, I graduated with a B.S. in Journalism Advertising. I worked for USA Today after graduation for 9 months and then accepted a job with Walgreens in the retail end as a Mgt trainee in May of 1985. My wife graduated a year later with her degree in Audiology and started working towards her Masters Degree, while I worked and saved for our wedding and future. We bought our first home on the eastside of Elgin, in June of 1986. We were married on Valentines Day 1987. The day after Thanksgiving 1987 ,I was promoted to a Walgreens Store Mgr. Over the next 14 years I ran 5 different stores for Walgreens Our first born Tony, was born in August of 1989 and our daughter ,Cara was born in January of 1992. In 1991 we bought our second house, a raised ranch a few blocks from where I grew up in Hanover Park. In 1996 we built and moved into our present home on the far west side of Elgin, west of Randall Road. Despite tremendous growth out here since we moved in, we are somewhat secluded in our quiet subdivision. In March of 2001, I left the stores for our Corporate Offices in Deerfield, Il. where I worked in Marketing. A year and a half later ,I was promoted to our Purchasing dept as an Asst. Buyer and a year later I was promoted to a Buyer/Catagory Mgr. of the Dental Oral Care department. In October 2007 my wife Valerie, finished her Doctorate in Audiology. She has worked with the same Ear, Nose and Thoat doctor here in Elgin since we were married. Tony, 20, a Sphomore at Illinois State in Bloomington, IL is majoring in English. He played baseball and soccer until his freshmen year in H.S and decided he didn't want to commit to a H.S sport. He loves the Cubs and the Blackhawks. Cara, 168 is a Senior at Burlington Central H.S.in Burlington , IL . She is definetly the more outgoing of our two. She is the one going to the football games and all the dances. She has played competitive Club So...Expand for more
ccer in our area for years. Her grandfather, who was from Italy was glad to see someone finally take up HIS sport. She takes after me in that she is a very fast runner. As a 7th and 8th grader she was the Conference Champion in the 100 yard dash. But Soccer is her passion. As a freshman, she made the Varsity and JV soccer teams and was named Most Valuable Player of the JV squad. Playing full time Varsity her Sophomore year she was named to the All-Conference team and was an Daily Herald ALL-Area Honorable Mention. Her Junior year she was Most Valuable Player of her team and was an unprecedented Big North All-Conference unanimous selection. This ( senior ) year she was a Kane County Chronicle selection of " Players To Watch " in the county. She will be attending college next year at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee in their Architecture school. We've been blessed with two great children who have been very easy to handle. My wife is everything I could ask for. She loves to attend Cara's soccer games and my baseball games. We both like to travel and she loves to read. She keeps everyone on schedule. We have Chicago Cubs season tickets and we all enjoy going to the games. As for me, I still play competitive fast pitch BASEBALL here in the area, in the NIMSBL (Northern Illinois Men's Senior Baseball League) for the Lake in the Hills Pirates. Our season goes from April thru Sept. and consists of about 20 games plus the playoffs. I've been part of 2 league Championships 2007 and 2008. This league is just one of many leagues across the Nation affiliated with the MSBL. There are tournaments year around across the country to participate in. I have 30 wine grape vines in my backyard and for the last 5 years I have made my own red wine. We had a label designed that features our Golden Retreiver Mia. I enjoy my garden each summer and love to cook. When I travel for business, I like to take in ball games at different Major League parks across the country. I have a restored 1966 Candy Apple Red Mustang convertible as a summer toy and 2008 Red Mustang as my everyday car. Reach me at valtone1 at aol
