Anthony is from Nantucket, Massachusetts. Anthony's schools include South Catholic High School, Holy Trinity High School, Immaculate Conception School.
MSgt Anthony (Tony) C. Mazotas
Anthony C. Mazotas enlisted in the 103rd Fighter Group Air National Guard Unit at Bradley Air Field 24 July 1969 following his uncles’ footsteps. His uncles, MSgt Walter J. Mazotas (Retired) (Deceased) and CMSgt Anthony (Red) Mazotas (Retired), are charter members of the unit. Another uncle, Lt Col Leo E Mazotas (Retired) joined the ANG unit a few years later. In August 1969, Tony was sent to basic military training at Lackland AFB TX. Upon successfully completing the training he returned to his unit at Bradley Air Field for training as an inventory management specialist
In the spring of 1975, Airman Mazotas enlisted in the active duty Air Force. In May 1975 he re-entered Basic Military Training at Lackland AFB TX. Successfully completing indoctrination in June 1975, now Airman First Class Mazotas continued to Keesler AFB MS to attend the Basic Electronic Training Course and the Ground Radio Communications Equipment Training course. During this period, Airman Mazotas distinguished himself as a "Bay Chief" (green rope) and graduated from the technical courses in November 1975. He then went on to his first active duty assignment at Homestead AFB FL in the 1942 Communications Squadron. During his assignment to the 1942 Communication Squadron he was promoted to Senior Airman.
During the period March 1977 through July 1997, Senior Airman Mazotas returned to Keesler AFB MS to attend the DLW-19 Weather Facsimile maintenance training course and the Scope Control Aero Station Operators Control Console maintenance training course.
In August 1977, Senior Airman Mazotas reported to his next duty assignment in West Germany, the 1836th Electronic Installation Squadron at Lindsey Air Station West Germany. After specialized training back in the states, he was immediately deployed to Incirlik Air Base Turkey. There, for the next eight months, as the only electronic skilled maintenance airman, with a team of antenna/construction and cable installers installed a Cable TV system providing hundreds of people on the Air Base with American TV. While TDY at Incirlik Air Base, he attended and completed Phase I of the Professional Military Education Course, soon after was awarded Non-commissioned Officer (NCO) status.
From West Germany, he proceeded to his next assignment in May 1979 to Detachment 1, 1st Air Communication Group, Silver Creek Nebraska, a small site of 40 enlisted personnel. While in transit, he was notified of his promotion to Staff Sergeant. He was selected as the Detachment Radio Maintenance Man of the Year 1980.
In June 1981, he moved to Rome, New York, for his next assignment, assigned to the Continental Communication Division, Griffiss AFB NY. There he learned what a desk job in Air Force was all about. He was responsible for formulating and recommending policy pertaining to the quality control programs for 30 subordinate units. Staff Sergeant Mazotas monitored and controlled the technical order publication improvement program, time compliance technical order program, modification program and the suggestion program for the division and it's subordinate units. During his stay here, he was deployed for an extended period to the 1999 Communications Squadron at Sunnyvale Air Force Station, California to revamp their quality control program. Within days after he returned to Griffiss AFB NY the 1999 Communications Squadron received an "Excellent" rating from the management effectiveness inspection team. Also During his stay at Griffiss AFB NY, He was asked for by name to teach a class on maintaining Cable TV systems for United States Air Force Europe at Torrejon Air Base Spain.
After his assignment to Griffiss AFB NY, he returned to West Germany, Lindsey Air Station (June 1984) assigned to the 2063rd Information Systems Squadron as Non-Commission Officer In Charge (NCOIC) of Job Control. f Sergeant Mazotas was promoted to Technical Sergeant. During the next few years Technical Sergeant Mazotas become know as the "best" Land Mobile Radio Manager in the European Theater. Technical Sergeant Mazotas here learned all about Land Mobile Radio Management. He re-wrote the United States Air Force Europe Maintenance Contract with focus on quality and timely maintenance from the contractor. He supported Land Mobile Radios throughout out most of Europe to include, five munitions maintenance squadrons, 30 collocated operation bases and three detachments. Some of Sergeant Mazotas accomplishments were, upgrading all radios assets at each of the five MUNSS, procuring funds for needed radios at the 30 collocated operation bases, developing a deployable Land Mobile Radios System, developing a deployable pager system, expanding the area coverage of the United States Army Local Military Police's Land mobile Radio System at Wiesbaden Air Base West Germany, coordinating the effort to providing Land mobile Radio assets from the 30 collocated operation bases to support Desert Storm personnel, and coordinating the efforts for the United States Military Air Force Wiesbaden Hospital by providing Land Mobile Radio communication with the local Army ambulances, Rhein Main Air Base Clinic West Germany, the United States Army Hospital Frankfurt West Germany, the 7100 Support Wing Command Post and the Lindsey Air Station West Germany's paging system. His area was rated "Excellent" during an inspector general team visit in 1988. The inspector awarded him a certificate "A PAT ON THE BACK FROM THE USAFE IG TEAM" stating, QUOTE: In the communications world, our primary mission is customer service. Your performance with 2063rd’s LMR function is superb. Despite the verbal avalanche you used to bury your inspector, we recognize the hard work that went into such effective, comprehensive LMR program. Keep up the good work! UNQUOTE.
With the closure of Lindsey Air Station looming in future, Technical Sergeant was re-assigned in May 1992 to the 1845 Engineering Installation Group Tinker AFB OK. In September 1992 he was promoted to Master Sergeant. He performed such duties as an analysis manager for the Workforce Control Flight. He retrieves, reviews, and analyzes information from the Headquarters 38th Engineering Installation Wing’s computerized Automated Communications Implementation Management System. He also develops from the data he retrieves, reviews, and analyzes monthly Quality Performance Indicators (QPIs) charts for briefings to the 38th Engineering Installation Wing Commander and for wing, group, and squadron storyboards. On 12 January 1995, Master Sergeant was assigned to the newly formed 38th Engineering Installation Squadron, doing the same duties. Other things Master Sergeant Mazotas has accomplished during his stay with the 38th are developed the Programmers Listing now distributed on the 38th WEB site to all customers, help in the development of the Automated Communications Implementation Management System (ACIMS) and assisted the wing in during various developments of the wing’s local area network at Tinker AFB OK.
Master Sergeant Anthony C. Mazotas is single and looking forward to a full and enjoyable retirement (1 August 1997) on an island called Nantucket, 28.4 miles at sea (Atlantic Ocean) off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, part of the United States of America. Nantucket island is out of sight of land; an Indian name meaning the "faraway island."
