Anthony's Story

Life I came to this website because I heard there will be a class reunion. We all wonder about our childhood friends, and so why be superficially polite…This will be a quick roughly written bio. (Forgive the grammatical errors)Here we go... I left DC because I had no money for college, nor was I ready for it. I spent 5 years in the US Air Force. This start afforded me a chance to grow up and learn about the world. Lived most of my early 20’s on a NATO Base with only a handful of low key Americans in picturesque Southern Holland. I learned Dutch, traveled & acclimated well. Also lived a great 4 months in Turkey under the same circumstances and came to appreciate history and the world outside our own paradigm. Ironically, the most foreign country I ever lived in was Las Vegas, Nevada. It was there I finished my tour of duty. The first night there, I lost $40 in two minutes. Never gambled again. When I was in Holland, I started interacting with an intriguing network of underground movements into the very closed country of the USSR. I still go often. Then,I studied Russian at Indiana University through a great summer program in Russia. All these experiences forced me to think about life a bit more seriously. I was a seeker that took on a a sort of “Saint Francis Of Assisi” philosophy . Talk has always been cheap to me. I stayed in Vegas for two years and made a serious commitment to work with the downcast. I helped with a 24 hr hotline and also helped run a small restaurant that was more like a mission to the downcast than a restaurant on the “Downtown Strip“. Then in 1986 in the midst of working with drug addicts and con-artists, my deepest ambitions were resurrected. Through a bizarre set of circumstances, I was given a job at the US Embassy in Moscow. I lived there from the day before Chernobyl in 1986 until just after the peace summits in 1989. In a word, they were crazy and intriguing times. All this has brought me many adventures and worthwhile...Expand for more
and serious introspection of life, it’s meaning etc , etc. I seriously contemplated becoming a minister at one time. I am saddened to say that like so many so called “enlightened ones”, I thought I had a pretty good handle on life. After many failings in life, it is clear to me that at best, I understand glimpses of light in life‘s deepest answers. The bottom line to all this is that from the very beginning of my departure from the lovely metropolis of Clinton, Maryland, I counted the cost and had created no false illusions for myself about what my personal definition of success would be. I decidedly made a choice to follow what some might call “the road less traveled.”. It has been at times very challenging , and at other times a life I would never change. Most of my life has been spent living out a fairly idealistic view of the world, and yet I do understand the hard reality and utter despair of life on the streets. It has forced me to both great and failing faith. It has been clear to me since my early 20’s, that I am one of billions passing through this life’s brokenness. And yet it is clear to me that it does have a purpose. We must all not harden our hearts to the Grace we all are given at one time or another. As much as I abhor greed and materialism, the truth is I have slowly built up my own business for the past few years, from almost nothing. Most of my present income comes through renovations on real estate partnerships. Most of the money I make from these ventures goes into an organization I started called "DC International Connection". DCIC is a fairly popular forum in with internationals in Washington. It is focused on international discussion on cultural, religious, and political issues. We are sometimes on CSPAN and work out of the “Fireplace Mansion“. If it really interests you, it is to best connect with me by searching any of these names on Google. We're going global. I've lived years as a content hetro bachelor. Tony
