Anthony's Story

After high school, I started DJing professionally in Boston nightclubs. I held various general jobs while pursuing DJing at night. In 1986, I went to school for a year in Yonkers, NY, but returned to Boston because it wasn't the right fit. By 1989, my DJ career started to take off and I joined a record label in Boston to do sales and marketing. I left the label in 1994. In 1995, I launched an Internet site, Netmix.com, which was the world's first to broadcast DJ mix sets fearing the world's most influential club DJs. I moved the company to New York City in 1996 and have lived in New York since that time. After selling the company in 2000, I went to work in television and internet production at Cablevision. Post-9/11 layoffs and the economy forced some job hopping to pay the bills, and I returned to NYU to pursue a degree in digital communications and media. I got married briefly in 2003. Only lasted a few months. Wasn't the right situation. Skip ahead to 2005--I joined StarStyle.com as VP of Music Services. In January 2008, I laid off and worked independently as a digital media consultant. I also continued to blog and produce my DJ mix shows on Netmix.com. In September, I joined Zaah Technologies as VP of Product Development. I work on Information Architecture and User Interface Design for our clients. I have a girlfriend, Missy, and live in Mt. Kisco, NY; it's about an hour north of Manhattan. From the Story Wizard: I always wanted to be a DJ when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were wrong.. I love to read or study new things. Listening to music, hanging out with friends, seeing a good movie or even just spending reflective time alone is how I blow off steam and relax. Sometimes, just surfing the web keeps my mind occupied. The wildest thing I ever did in school, was probably when I smoked a little weed before detention. Or when I fooled arou...Expand for more
nd with my girlfriend at the time wherever we could on school grounds. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have authority, respect, and support to be able to deal with the day-to-day. I can't say I have any heroes specifically. There are people I look up to, like my Dad, my mentor Dave Jurman, my teachers throughout my education. Those are the people who inspired me to reach for the sky. I've moved quite frequently. Most people don't know that I grew up in Charlesview. I moved when I was 19 to North Reading, after my mom married and bought a house. From there, I went to school in Yonkers, NY. Back to North Reading. Then for a year in Newton Corner. Then a year in Belmont. Then I lived in Brookline's Coolidge Corner and Washington Square for about 5 or 6 years or so. I moved to Hoboken, NJ in September 2006. About 9 months later, I moved to Jersey City Heights. I spent a few years there, then moved over to Bay Ridge in Brooklyn. Spent a year there and then moved to Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn. Was there three years, then married and moved over to Court Street in Brooklyn for a year an a half. Got divorced and moved back out to Bay Ridge for two years. Then moved to Yonkers, NY again to be closer to my girlfriend. Now in Mt. Kisco, NY for the past two years. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Teresita Martinez, because I need to apologize to her. My biggest surprise has been this transient lifestyle I've led and the career I've developed just pursuing a dream. It's been hard, but worth it. If I won $100 million, I'd give some of it to a charity, then spend the rest on a business, a home and travel. My current age is 42. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely wrong. I've always loved nightlife and DJ culture. I've mixed that with my passion for new media and have developed a career working at the cross section of those interests.
